Advantages: Some good melodical riffs Disadvantages: Too wet
Silent Waters is the most recent album by Finnish melodic metal band Amorphis. The album was released at the beginning of 2007 on Nuclear Blast, it features a moon lit album cover with a distinctive red swan. The album was largely touted as their "back to their best" album. Not being familiar with any of Amorphis' previous work this didn't really effect me much anyway.
With crispy guitar solos and sparkling clear vocals, this should have been rather ... ...the realms of artistic mediocrity - I'd steer clear of this one.

Advantages: Amazing Vocals Disadvantages: cant really think of any
Amorphis experienced some drastic changes a few years ago. Their old vocalist, Pasi Koskinen, was replaced by the new one. The big question was whether the new guy could go a good job and maintain the bands voice and identity. Well, Tomi Joutsen really did do a fantastic job. Probably an even better vocalist than Pasi Koskinen. Tomi brings in the strength needed to match the powerful music. He has a very diverse vocal style with great clean as well ... ...vocals really sits well with the music. The blending of different styles of vocals in songs like THE SMOKE makes one wonder how Tomi can handle such drastic changes with his voice. The music in the album is melodic and is the trademark Amorphis style. There are good riffs. HOUSE OF SLEEP has a great opening riff. THE SMOKE starts with a cool melody with acoustic guitars and a piano. Probably the best song on the record.
The album is great. Great ...
Advantages: Hard, unconventional rock Disadvantages: An acquired taste
Rap-Metal group Rage Against the Machine released their self-titled debut album in 1992, but the music is just as relevant today as it was back then. Songs like 'Take the Power Back' and 'Freedom' are about individual exploitation by the cultural, social, and political systems in society, and how the people must be willing to rise up and overcome such oppression. You may have also recently heard about the small matter of 'Killing in the Name' beating ... ...when you first listen to Rage is that they mean business. The whole album is intended to provide voice to the silent minority: Those individuals that feel neglected and abused are given hope through the band's resonant, unashamed, confrontational expression. Guitarist Tom Morello's anomalous riffs, rhythmic special effects and extended tapping techniques were some of the most powerful sounds to come from a guitar in that era, and remain unchallenged ...

Advantages: Unique and Brilliant consistancey of good tracks Disadvantages: Old fashion looking album design
Normally im into Children of Bodom, Slipknot, BFMV and alot more of the screamo bands. But the Avenged Sevefold have a truly unique style, the vocalist is amazing. I bought this album, and loved it. I think the best on the album is The beast and the harlot. I truly love this band and cannot wait until their next tour. The consistancy of the tracks is also very good with tracks like afterlife, bat country, Blinded in chains, MIA and gunslinger deserving ...
