A good album, but not groundbreaking (edited)
Advantages: Valhalla and the covers that might interest collectors Disadvantages: Not such amazing tracks
This is the second album of one of the best known power metal bands, Blind Guardian.
This album is of pure powermetal and will sound strange to newer fans of the band that are used to the more symphonic inclinated nightfall on middle earth and a night at the opera (among others), but you will not find it strange since this album is from 1989.
The first track is an interesting monk choir that might sound familiar to ppl that saw monty pytons quest ... ...for all time stand out of the other has great power metal songs with very catchy choirs (valhalla mostly).
Don't break the cricle is a wanderfull metal song, extremely catchy with beautifull guitar sounds.
Fast to madness is another song with great choir (ride...fast..to madness) and very interesting lyrics. Has a long time fan of the Beach Boys I loved the metal cover of barbara anne, very funny and interesting.
Recomended to die hard fans of ...

This album shows the band from an unknown side...
Advantages: Blind Guardian from a totally different side - but still great! Disadvantages: -
...what we got here: The Forgotten Tales...
This album can not be considered as a regular Blind Guardian album indeed. It was born out of the idea to try something different and make some coverversions. And as the band has done some coverversions before they decided to rearrange some older songs and put them alltogether on an album. So the idea for "The Forgotten Tales" was born somewhere in 1996.
The album starts with "Mr. Sandman", a song you should ... ...in a typical version of Blind Guardian: At first you won't notice a difference to the original, slowly the guitars come in and finally you bang your head to a perfect speedmetal-song. There was also a video done for that song that showed the band playing in a children's room, first dressed as nurses... Great!!!
The second one is another classic: "Surfin' USA". We all know this one but the version Blind Guardian made is something you surely haven't ...

I waited for 3 years - was it really worth it
Advantages: Most aggressive album of the band, just great songs on it Disadvantages: perhaps too heavy for some...
Well, as surely expected I'm going to continue my review-series on Blind Guardian's albums...
After the "Somewhere far beyond" album (released in 1992) the band went on an excessive tour which lead them also to Japan where they recorded their first live album, Tokyo Tales. After the major success of the tour Blind Guardian took a short break and after that started writing new material for the upcoming album.
Virgin, their label, saw that the band ... ...another masterpiece of Metal. "Imaginations from the other side" was the title of the album and it was recorded, mixed and mastered with Flemming Rasmussen at Sweet Silence Studios, Copenhagen, Denmark where also Metallica recorded some of their groundbreaking albums in the late eighties. Unfortunately the band had to take a break for some months during the recordings as guitarplayer Andre had a serious injury in his arm and has to stop playing guitar ...

A return to form for 'Guardian!
Advantages: Fresh, Original, Classic Disadvantages: May not appeal to everyone
...into temptation, but into A Twist In the Myth with the new album. A Mixed album, containing the more Epic songs we have seen them grow up with, and the more 'Majesty', 'Guardian of the Blind' style songs. A change of drummers doesnt necassarily dictate a change of style, and Blind Guardian are true to form with this blinder!
A good album to start listening to 'Guardian, it contains songs that should appeal to all metal fans, with balladic rock peices ... ...Stranger Me, Otherland, This Will Never End and Lionheart, Epic pieces like Skalds and Shadows and Turn the Page.
The Album also contains an interview with the bandmembers concerning the album, upcoming music and the new drummer.
The album contains a little easter egg, the song Dead Sound of Misery is a darker take on the song Fly.
Overall, a good album, would reccomend to any BG fans, or anyone wanting a different take on Tolkien's work ...

Far beyond excellent...
Advantages: Excellent tunes covering a wide range of material Disadvantages: A fine album, but without any of the extras often demanded today
This is definetly my favourite album by Blind Guardian and a fine choice for anyone who is a fan of their work. It features a good selection of tracks paying homage to different literary works, from Stephen King's Dark Tower series in the title track of the album "Somewhere Far Beyond" to Micheal Moorcock's works in "Quest for Tanelorn".
The works contain excellent melodic tunes, some accoustic and others with a heavier sound but none sacraficing ... ...are all innovative and full of well crafted details and all flow well with the good guitar work featured in each track.
The highlight of the album is to many "The Bard's Song" which has spawned an extended single release recently with various versions. The original available on this album is a soothing acoustic tune with excellent lyrics.
Also on the album is a Queen cover "Spread Your Wings"
For anyone with an appreciation for thought provoking ...
