The feel of the album is different in a few ways from other COB albums. For instance the song is much more a composition of Riffs, heavy 'chugging' power chords and prechorus runs. THe complexity often associated with the band has been slightly removed. What remains though is an album which death metal supremists and the rest of the metal heads can both ... ...and keyboard solos. 3/5
Are You Dead Yet?
Did I mention the violence? =D The drums roll, the guitars fly and the vocals (this time literally!) scream. Alexi almost outcompetes his soloing ability in this track but unfortunatly it sounds too much like the previous but slightly less heavy and less the brilliance of COB 2.5/5 (catchy chorus though =P)

...released in early 2001 - Follow the Reaper, captured the band in their prime.
The album was recorded in Sweden and released by Nuclear Blast. Everytime I Die and Follow the Reaper are the most succesful of tracks, personally I prefer the latter which is definitely one of the best on the album. A later version released in 2006 features 2 bonus tracks.
The Finnish metal band played in pretty much a similar style to their previous two albums Hatebreeder ... ...but in different colours. The keyboard playing on this album is exquisite and gives the album a somewhat eerie and haunted sound, which is ideal when you are trying to get across Grim Reaper like messages! To label Children of Bodom as melodic black metal is wrong as they have completely their own style, particularly on this album.
The lyrics whilst far from marvellous have a sort of Finnish charm to them covering those popular Nordic topics of ...

9. Hate Crew Deathroll - Children of Bodom's new anthem. I had the pleasure of seeing the band live twice last year (at Wacken Open Air and at Bloodstock) and this song really got things moving. Every single person at both of those venues screamed out the words to the chorus!

And we sure as hell ... ...song in their very own Hate Crew fashion!
While I have been saying that this album is not Bodom's greatest album, which is reflected in the four-star rating, it is without doubt Bodom's most accessible album! If you are new to the genre, or new to the band, then this is the album I recommend you buy, as it is a great introduction to a great band. If you are already a fan of extreme metal, but have thus far overlooked Children of Bodom, I recomment ...

Wow, this album is fantastic, what makes it fantastic is that it's live and with live albums you get more feeling and atmosphere and this collection of songs are played so well. The songs are dramatic and you really feel the music within your body. This album gives me shivers up my spine. No joke, I put this album on and it HAS to be played loud. The feeling is truly immense.
Extraordinary guitar ripping solos and the best song on this album is ... ...so well. You have to listen to it to find out. it isnt played like on 'Something Wild' There is an intro which is simply wow, I cant really explain it but, it gets you.. the feeling inside of you from the guitar and drums it's magical.
Children of Bodom are VERY talented musicians and well, with any of their albums you can see this.
