Revolutionary Danish Metal
Advantages: Unique Metal Artists Disadvantages: Repetitve songs
...with their second last album; Walking on Phantom Ice. Being a band from Denmark, they have left an enormous influence on the danes, as compared to the King of metal - the Swedish - this album is on par with big names. The genre of Withering Surface is a mix between Metallica, Iron Maiden, Children of Bodom and Fear Factory, which blends to make this truely unique band another masterpiece.
With tracks such as Joyless Journey, Walking on Phantom Ice ... ...the beautiful blend between their melodic and metal sides. Whilst songs such as Seperation and Sundive giving the more burtal edge of music, which isnt pulled off tremendously well, but has enough energy and catchy riffs to make any metal fan interested in this album. The rest of the songs such as Suite 304, Night of Shame and The Everflow, seem more or less a filler of the album and do appear to be disappointing, but are nonetheless above any metal ...

Hidden Gem
Advantages: Intelligent, beautiful, unique Disadvantages: Zero publicity
As you may see from my other reviews, I'm reviewing a lot of bands that people haven't heard of. Because of this it can be hard for me to review without comparing them to other well known bands.
Unjust are a band who have massively matured since their first release in 2001. 'Glow' is described as a moody, melodic opus of metal and progressive rock music. It is a fantastic CD that I see more of a journey than a CD. Operatic vocals combined with heavy ... ...a great deal since their stereotypical metal debut of "Makeshift Grey", and we are now left with a mature, intelligent release.
From the opening intro "Paper Planets" which is a soft guitar opener that can be described as beach music, it sharply kicks into the loud and violent 'Throwing Pennies'. The track isn't too loud and overpowering that it takes away from the effect, it's a very soothing vocally layered melancholic track with pounding drums ...

'Zechariah Rush (Uru Shalom Har Meggidon) anyone?'
Advantages: An unusual combination of heavy metal mixed with mellower interludes. Disadvantages: Poor album art/information and for die-hard heavy metal fans only!
Overview…
Stemming from the band Blastcage, Earthtone9 formed in a small Nottingham pub in 1996. They took their influences from bands such as Helmet, Tool and Deftones, naming themselves after the first line of Helmet's song 'In The Meantime' ('earth tone suits you'). Earthtone9 adopted the statement 'We're into musical evolution, not revolution', putting their own unique and appealing twist onto heavy metal music. They released their first album ... ...the incredible sum of just £500. The album received the thumbs up in Kerrang! and Metal Hammer, catapulting the band to the forefront of the British metal scene. 'Offkilter Enhancement' is the third of Earthtone9's productions, released in 1999. It was described by Kerrang! as 'a mix of lacerating intensity, paint-peeling aggression and epic melodies', although this summary does not give the full picture.

Rage Against The Machine Album Review
Advantages: Hard, unconventional rock Disadvantages: An acquired taste
Rap-Metal group Rage Against the Machine released their self-titled debut album in 1992, but the music is just as relevant today as it was back then. Songs like 'Take the Power Back' and 'Freedom' are about individual exploitation by the cultural, social, and political systems in society, and how the people must be willing to rise up and overcome such oppression. You may have also recently heard about the small matter of 'Killing in the Name' beating ... ...when you first listen to Rage is that they mean business. The whole album is intended to provide voice to the silent minority: Those individuals that feel neglected and abused are given hope through the band's resonant, unashamed, confrontational expression. Guitarist Tom Morello's anomalous riffs, rhythmic special effects and extended tapping techniques were some of the most powerful sounds to come from a guitar in that era, and remain unchallenged ...
