My, that's so heavy it hurts.

Advantages: Probably Crowbar's best effort to date
Disadvantages: None really, unless you don't like downtuned heavy ass riffs

Crowbar's newest album, and its awesome. Background: Crowbar are a sludge / "doom-core" band based in New Orleans. Formed in 1989 and influenced by bands such as Melvin and Carnivore, crowbar pretty much define what many people think of as heavy. Unfortunately, Crowbar tend to be overlooked as one of the metal greats, but after listening to any of Kirk's riffs and you'll realise that they are the kings of old school heavy - slow, grinding and with ...
...if you haven't heard of them before, id say they are like a down tuned Pantera.... Anyway, on to the album: The album starts with a heavy, slow track entitled "New Dawn". Wow, is all i can say. Its great to listen to and even more fun to play. The album continues in this trend for the first few tracks ("angel's wings", "coming down" etc) and generally sets the tone for the album - slow, sombre and heavy. However, tracks such as "fall back to zero" ...

Bludgeoned into Submission

Advantages: Very heavy, shows off their melodic side a bit.
Disadvantages: Very heavy, a bit samey.

Doom metal at its absolute finest, that is what Crowbar promise, and that is what we get. This album is absolutely unbelievably heavy, but with an edge of thoughtfulness which lifts it slightly above the usual fare. There are also a couple of surprises in store on this album. The opening track, I Feel The Burning Sun, sets the tone. Heavy, St Vitus style riffs and throat tearing vocals, all played at a snails pace and with enough distortion to cause ...
...then this is meat and drink, so you should love this track. The vocals are extreme, but audible, and carry a lot of emotion. This is one of the key strengths of this band, that they really manage to convey something to the listener, and draw them into the music. The title track, Equilibrium, is slightly faster than many of the tracks, and is a bit more positive in outlook. It is also a real are-kicker of a track, liable to get heads banging across ...

Old School Doom Core. The best!

Advantages: Really early glimpse into Crowbar, with some good bonus tracks.
Disadvantages: Might be a little fuzzy for some.

...are really groundbreaking for the time - "Vacuum" has one of the most interesting uses of a delay pedal on reverse ive ever heard - the riff just sounds immense! Even the bonus material is decent - videos of crowbar are few and far between, and its really cool to see Kirk play live - my personal favourite being the awesome video for "The only factor". I'm not entirely sure what else to say - this album rocks plain and simple, and every track is absolute ...

Rage Against The Machine Album Review

Advantages: Hard, unconventional rock
Disadvantages: An acquired taste

Rap-Metal group Rage Against the Machine released their self-titled debut album in 1992, but the music is just as relevant today as it was back then. Songs like 'Take the Power Back' and 'Freedom' are about individual exploitation by the cultural, social, and political systems in society, and how the people must be willing to rise up and overcome such oppression. You may have also recently heard about the small matter of 'Killing in the Name' beating ...
...when you first listen to Rage is that they mean business. The whole album is intended to provide voice to the silent minority: Those individuals that feel neglected and abused are given hope through the band's resonant, unashamed, confrontational expression. Guitarist Tom Morello's anomalous riffs, rhythmic special effects and extended tapping techniques were some of the most powerful sounds to come from a guitar in that era, and remain unchallenged ...

...Track Two Captain Morgans Revenge 5/5 This is a brilliant track, infact it is better than brilliant! I love the guitarring its really catching and the drums are excellent. Lyrics are immense and stick in your head 'So have no fear and dont look back the afterlife awaits' I love that line espesially I dont know why. The track in itself is just indescribable to be honest, its probably one of the best songs I have heard from this band. Track Three The ...
