Advantages: A coming of age album, perfectly polished Disadvantages: Probably not to be topped again by the band
...when after the gentleness of Hysteria and a soft cuddle with your new fella. It'll either having you reach for the volume knob to turn it up or turn it down. I liked it, simply because it was fun, after such a serious track. It tells you to 'stand up' We're back almost into bop mode again.
The last track 'Love and Affection' could have been another 'Hysteria' but it seems to lack something, I think because it sounds so similar. It bares the mark ... ...spoils it. Its again gentle and reflective. It doesn't have the same broodiness of 'Hysteria'. It would have felt better on a follow up album. It's still a good piece to finish an album but not a rock album. They were essentially a commercial rock band unlike others, they had chosen to conform, whether it was to make money or get popular fast. One feels that previous albums, 'On through the night' and 'Pyromania' seemed to be true Def Leppard. One ...
Advantages: Truely awesome lyrics and music Disadvantages: Couldn't name one.
This is possibly my favourite Def Leppard album of all time. It is definately one of the most forgotten albums, only remembered for 'Let's Get Rocked' but it really contains more than that. This was the album compiled just after Steve Clarks death and really had sentimental vaulue to the band. Steve was one of the main contributors to the songs on the album and the album was put out in memory of his creative genius. The inlay of the album has a few ... ...most vulnerable time, looking back on all the times when they should have seen the destruction going on behind the mans eyes. But it was definately never easy. My heart goes out to the band, for coping so well with such a terrible happening. Def Leppard have really had the worst things thrown at them, but always turned them into a life experience, and helped it make them stronger.
Anyway, back to the songs!
Obviously, the album would start with ...
Advantages: Good lyrics, heavy rock sound, strong throughout Disadvantages: None that I can think of.
...far the guys came between Pyromania and High'n'Dry in terms of song writing. It's fairly speedy stuff, with plenty of harmonic vocals and a guitar duel a la "Hotel California" (albeit not as accomplished). This is certainly my favourite song in the album.
Song rating: 10/10
Song 6 - Foolin'

One of the weaker songs in the album but still a pleasant song to listen to. Starts off slowly. This is the closest the album has to a ballad ... ...9/10

Pyromania exudes quality from start to finish and it's little wonder that some people still feel this is even better than Hysteria. I'm not entirely decided as to that point. Certainly lyrically it is better with Songs 5 and 10 being real belters in that department. In terms of mass appeal to today's newer Leppard fans brought up on ballads and sweet-sounding soft rock sounds, this is perhaps not what they might expect ...
Advantages: Great Album...back to the Lep we know and love Disadvantages: not easy to buy even though its relatively new.
...to see Lep on their X tour last year (2003) but only bought the album recently.
Despite the fact that it is relatively new its quite hard to find on sale. But then thats typical of albums that dont appeal to the masses.
The album is very good with Lep maturing with their sound with age..and going back to the sound we all know. This album not the experiment that slang was.
Some very mellow songs on the album ..us Lep ladies love that..maybe not ...

Review of X - Def Leppard
Advantages: A little bit of rock history, not as over-produced as their later stuff Disadvantages: Joe Elliot probably hadn't started his singing lessons yet, very raw
...dire although some of the music is actually a little more complex than their later stuff.
There's little point in going into the strengths of the songs on this album, as there are none, but if you want a piece of British rock history then give it a whirl. ...
