Dunno what to call this one... Deliverance?
Advantages: everything, great musicianship Disadvantages: stop it, nothing at all.
...the MUST HAVE metal record: Deliverance by Opeth. WHO IS OPETH?
***********************
Opeth is a Swedish band, playing together for 10+ years. Their roots lay clearly within the death/doom genre, but they write songs with actual melodies. Opeth's music has become so much more, and dare I say it, truly unique. Over the years, they have garnered quite a large following (by underground standards) due to the critical and financial success of their ... ...hearse, Still life, Blackwater Park, Deliverance and Damnation. There is an 8th one on the way this year.
The band was co-founded by guitarist/vocalist Mikael Akerfeldt who eventually recruited second guitarist Peter Lindgren, drummer Martin Lopez (ex-AMON AMARTH), and bassist Martin Mendez. The musical ability of Mikael Akerfeldt and company have earned OPETH the Swedish equivalent of a Grammy award. They have come a long way since their inception ...

To Rid The Disease.
Advantages: brilliant arrangements by some classically trained musicians, excellent lyrical themes. Disadvantages: some may find it depressing.
Damnation is the seventh album from progressive metal band Opeth. It surprisingly showcases the bands lighter side and was their first album to reach the Billboard Top 200, "Windowpane" being the album's single. Damnation is an outstanding, yet not drastic contrast from Opeth's roots in Scandinavian death metal. It successfully fuses aspects of blues, folk, rock and jazz through its clean and controlled vocal stylings, brilliantly composed classical ... ...bands flexibility. Opeth really shine here, despite putting aside their usual blast beats, heavy growling vocals and distorted riffs, in favour of more subdued melancholy musical patterns. As always, the arrangements are superbly orchestrated. Drums are at a steady pace, the guitar work is great, and the entire album is permeated with some truly brilliant synth, and has a subtle undercurrent of rhythm that brilliantly complements the fantastic high ...

dusk, and the album about it
Advantages: The female vocalist in some of the songs Disadvantages: No songs seem to stand out
This album starts of pretty typical CofF style, with the eerie sounding synth-type thing, closely followed by "Heaven Torn Asunder" which is nicely structured, with the usual pounding drums, and dynamic vocals. No song stands out as particularly bad on this album, but in reply to that, none of the tracks seem outstandingly brilliant. Sure, the guitar work, is technical and sounds pretty impressive, and the songs are well written, but they just don't ... ...because the songs are all pretty long, and the tempo changes often, giving the impression of a different song starting. Saying that, I find "A Gothic Romance" a very impressive song. Also, the choirs in "Dusk And Her Embrace" are a really nice touch. Cradle of Filth defintely have found the formula for their songs, and they don't look like changing it. The seem happy with the way their songs come out, but I find that the songs seem to blend together.. ...

Deliverance to be Delivered
Advantages: Extremely Progressive, Purely Original, Well Synchronized Disadvantages: Softies might not be able to handle it
"Deliverance", one of Opeth's finest Masterpieces, came after the Album "Blackwater Park", which was not that highly appreciated, Well I'd say that every one has their one perception regarding an album or a single. Anyways, similar to the ideology of presentation that Opeth puts forth, this album contains six different tracks, All somewhat related in a way. In other words, If you take all the good parts from "Blackwater Park" & "My Arms, Your Hearse", ... ...the song synchronization seems to be in order & the production inflicts the essence of being Flawless. The Album "Deliverance" was the 1st part of Opeth's plan, as they wanted to throw in both sides of the coin, & they released two Albums in which one related to Depression & Death which was "Deliverance", and the other one related to Relationships & Nature which was "Damnation", the other half. According to the Band, they felt like switching the ...

Rage Against The Machine Album Review
Advantages: Hard, unconventional rock Disadvantages: An acquired taste
Rap-Metal group Rage Against the Machine released their self-titled debut album in 1992, but the music is just as relevant today as it was back then. Songs like 'Take the Power Back' and 'Freedom' are about individual exploitation by the cultural, social, and political systems in society, and how the people must be willing to rise up and overcome such oppression. You may have also recently heard about the small matter of 'Killing in the Name' beating ... ...when you first listen to Rage is that they mean business. The whole album is intended to provide voice to the silent minority: Those individuals that feel neglected and abused are given hope through the band's resonant, unashamed, confrontational expression. Guitarist Tom Morello's anomalous riffs, rhythmic special effects and extended tapping techniques were some of the most powerful sounds to come from a guitar in that era, and remain unchallenged ...
