In flames, might be best thing for it.
Advantages: Some accomplished bits. Disadvantages: Screaming and samey drum beats.
In Flames - Come Clarity
Yet another of my 14 year old (next months) son's offerings which he insists 'You must listen to this dad'. This is by no means my longest review as I am not going to 'fill' when I have not much to say.
Wikipedia tell me that these are a Swedish melodic death metal band.....not a good start, however, being am open minded dad I thought I should give them a a go. Though I do fail to see how Death Metal can be melodic, ho, ... ...5. Scream 6. Come Clarity 7. Vacuum 8. Pacing Death's Trail 9. Crawl Through Knives 10. Versus Terminus 11. Our Infinite Struggle 12. Vanishing Light 13. Your Bedtime Story Is Scaring Everyone I am not going to review every track as I have to say they are all quite similar. They are fast, drum based songs with some pretty fast and accomplished guitar work, both lead and bass. The vocals go from screaming to well, screaming. The intro drum work on ...

Reroute to Remain, Fantastic...
Advantages: Mind-blowing, awesome album, no fillers Disadvantages: Can't think of any...
...heavy-er rock, you will find Reroute to Remain a most worthwhile purchase. 1.: Reroute To Remain
The title of the album is also the title of the first song. This song starts with an eerie electronic introduction, rapidly interrupted by the beat of the classic death metal rhythm guitar. More high-pitched melodic death metal style guitar plays over this intrductory shock until the croaky, gritty screaming breaks in, highlighted by the thundering beat ... ...unexpected high-pitched "chipmunk" sound voice which plays as a background for high-pitched screamy chorus. Following this is another screamy set of verses and chorus. Then a blisteringly fast, but shortlived solo with the high-pitched guitar. Not the best song on the album, but certainly not bad!
2.: System
A huge SHOCK as this song starts, with rapid unbroken screaming, fast paced and unrelentless. Only to break to a rapid beat on the guitar, ...

The new metal kings
Advantages: Appealing to everyone Disadvantages: Breaking In Flames' Tradition
...Now with this album - Soundtrack to your escape - In Flames have managed to incorporate the death metal touch they perfected so many years back, with their experimental side of Reroute to remain.
With classic songs such as F(r)iend - illustrating the brutatlity they created back in the era of "Clayman", "Touch of Red" and "Borders and Shading" which has a metal, numetal, death metal edge to it which blows me away every time I listen to it! and finally ... ...to their escape! However, songs such as Superhero of the computer rage and dead alone make the album seem quite repetitve in a sense that there seems to lack originality in each and every indivdual song.
As mentioned previously, this is not another Clayman, or Lunar Strain, this is very contemporary and quite a lot like Reroute to remain, but this album I believe is exceptional, both lyrically and musically. ...

I Sense A Change
Advantages: Clearer Sound Compared to past albums, larger target audience, more adventurous drumming Disadvantages: Not for those who like raw death metal, more clean vocals could be a put off
A Sense of Purpose is a huge step, or in some peoples' opinions a great fall for In Flames. Looking back at the previous In Flames albums, A Sense of Purpose doesn't have a style close to any of the previous albums, however if you are a long-term In Flames fan, you will have already noticed that the raw "Death Metal" sound that In Flames possessed with the earlier albums, for example Lunar Strain, Subterranean and Jester Race is slowly progressing ... ..."mainstream," I believe that "A Sense of Purpose" is the most "mainstream" sounding album to date, attracting new In Flames fans that would not usually listen to In Flames. If you own the In Flames album, "Come Clarity," and like the cleaner sound In Flames adopted in that album, I believe that is the closest preview to this In Flames album, which furthers the transistion In Flames have made to an album full of songs with clean vocals and less raw ...

A masterpiece
Advantages: Opens a door to slow melodic death metal Disadvantages: I can't really think of any
This is an amazing album from In Flames. It adds a new side to the death metal that i listen to. As a musician it is a delight to listen to. Each song has its share of harmonies, tempo changes and often strange time signatures. They have all been precisely melded into the seriously good compositions that make up this album. Most of the tracks are slow and menacin which is good because it is easy to curn out up beat songs but its the slow ones that ...
