Power Of The Sun 8. Devil On A Hog 9. Believil 10. Tyranny Of Souls Bruce Dickinson is the lead singer of Iron Maiden. He also has a solo band, and this is his 6th studio album. The introduction is a short piece of music, a few vocals, guitar and drums. It ...
...is the title track; A Tyranny Of Souls. It starts slow and mysterious, until the guitar and drums kick in with a great verse riff and excellent vocals. This is the best track of the album, really showing off Bruce's voice and Roy Z's guitar skills. This outstanding track makes an excellent finish to the album. Overall, it is a different album with a range of styles and experimenting. It has soft accoustic and heavy tracks, and many in the middle ...

Bruce Leaves Maiden

Advantages: Interesting Career Change
Disadvantages: Some weak tracks

So the great Bruce Bruce (as he was so memorably called in his Samson days!) has broken away from Iron Maiden and become a fully-fledged solo artist. Inevitably this release will be compared to Maiden's material, but apart from a couple of tracks it's actually pretty different. The single, "Tears of the Dragon" is probably the most Maideny song here - which is probably why the record company released it - and is in fact something of a classic, perfectly ...
...features a guitar break which could have been lifted from any IM album. Mind you, all this harking back is probably unfair, and the album should be taken as a piece of work in its own right. As such, it is certainly better than Brucie's previous solo effort "Tattooed Millionaire", but not as entertaining as most Maiden albums (oops, it's that band again). An uneven album overall, which has its moments but is not going to set the world alight. P.S. ...

Brucie Ploughs On Alone

Advantages: More Cohesive Effort
Disadvantages: Too many fillers

What does the album title mean? Dunno mate. Album cover? Two blokes in suits eyeing each other over a stretch of eater. Significance? Ain't got a scooby pal. Lyrics? Well, they're all printed back to front and I couldn't really be arsed deciphering them. The music? Ah, now you're asking. This is Brucie's third solo album, and moves him well away from the land of Maiden after the transitional stages of "Tattooed Millionaire" and "Balls To Picasso". ...
...to catch you out with the old quiet-start-so-you-turn-it-up-only-for-it-to-suddenly-burst-into-life trick. The guitars of lead Alex Dickson and bassist Chris Dale are excellent, even overshadowing the superb voice of the man himself, although that reasserts itself on "Back From The Edge". "Inertia" is a contradiction in terms with its undoubted energy. Those guitars lift an otherwise run-of-the-mill breaking-up type number "Faith", while those tonsils ...

Brucie's Back

Advantages: Iron Maiden fans will like it.
Disadvantages: Not as good as Maiden

The air-raid siren is back. The big question is: does this sound like an Iron Maiden album now that Adrian Smith is working with Brucie again? Well, perhaps the easiest way to give a flavour of the album is to randomly reproduce some quotes from all the tracks. "Freak" - the prince of darkness plays his games. Your life is lost, your soul is damned. "Toltec 7 Arrival" - gibberish (it's 38 seconds of organ and mumbling). "Starchildren" - do I ...
...threshold of your waking hour. "Taking The Queen" - our skeletons rise through the veil of blood. "Darkside of Aquarius" - the second hellrider came, from flaming seas of molten sand. "Road To Hell" - slowly bleeding, watch the vortex feeding. Brave new world of secret fantasy that hovers just beyond your bloody grasp. "Man Of Sorrows" - a small boy lies kneeling, he prays for a god he does not know. Do what thou wilt he screams from his cursed ...

Balls to Brazil

Advantages: Excellent production for a live album, great atmosphere
Disadvantages: Tracks lose some polish.

...to be a fish saying Scream for Me Brazil, on a greenish background. Hmmm...not brilliantly thought out I think. The atmosphere on the album is very good - these Brazilians are obviously fanatical about their heavy metal, and they really go mental at some point during the album. I'm happy to say that production keeps the crowd noise down to acceptable levels without eliminating it, which is the perfect way to do a live album. Finally, there is little ...
...Dickinson at his best), but there is a lot of poetry recorded. I gather that Bruce read bits of William Blake's poetry to set the atmosphere before each song, as most of Chemical Wedding is based on the poetry of Blake. This works surprisingly well in a live situation, and doesn't seem like a lesson from your old English teacher at all. Overall, one of the best live albums I have ever heard. Some minor disappointments commonly associated with live ...
