Essential Item
Advantages: A must-have for true fans Disadvantages: Not much new material
This 5-CD box set was released by the band (and it really does seem to have been approved by the band rather than the usual record company cash-in) as a tribute to Bon Scott. The title is apparently what Bon would have called his solo album, had he ever released one.
In addition to the 5 CDs, there is a glossy 48-page brochure with a brief band history, plenty of quotes from Bon and the boys, previously unseen photographs (as well as a cracker inside ... ...full Highland dress), and reproductions of hand-written lyrics by Mr. Scott. In addition we are treated to a poster, temporary tattoo, sticker, guitar pick and a really cool keyring/bottle opener.
The discs themselves comprise the following: "Back In Black" – remastered in a gatefold sleeve.
"Live From The Atlantic Studios" – yes, the same one I bought on vinyl last year. D'oh! At least the full introduction and closing remarks are included to ...

The Saintly Metallica Get Angry.
Advantages: A welcome return with a much rawer sound. Disadvantages: No Guitar solos.
2003 was marked with the reappearance of a Metallica studio album after 6 years wait from the previous album Reload. Now as you can expect like any good fan I winged my little way down to the record store on the day of release to pick up my copy and rushed home to see just how loud my new stereo could play this album without causing any major damage to it, me, or the surrounding area. Even though the familiar Metallica sound didn’t burst out ... ...lot of potential in the opening track and as the album progressed I found myself more initially liking the album rather than outright loving it, but then again the same could be said with the way I felt about the “Black” album and the “Load” album as well. A few listens later though and the album was starting to really grow into a winner in my books. The one thing that any Metallica fan will straight away notice about this album is the lack ...

Butchering? More like reviving the Beatles
Advantages: An updated blast from the past Disadvantages: Not everyones favorite Beatles tracks were covered
This album is not like the other Beatles tribute albums, but instead is in a class of its own. Featuring top musicians from the rock and metal genre this CD promised to be a screeching, howling head banging take on several Beatles classics. And the first track sticks to this promise. Alice cooper's vocals make 'Hey Bulldog' his own, accompanied on guitar by Steve Vai, this track is not only a catchy tune but prepares you for what is to come. Several ... ...Motorheads Lemmy and Ex Judas Priest/Iced Earth singer Tim "Ripper" Owens. I am a Beatles fan, and upon hearing that members of the metal and rock family were releasing this album I was excited, yet filled with a slight feeling of apprehension. Could The Beatles songs really be pulled off with screaming vocals and raging guitars? Well after listening, yes, yes they can. By doing this, not only have the artists paid homage to their heroes but they ...

I Daren't It's Too Big
Advantages: I'm In Love With The Destructive Girls Disadvantages: Yeah Yeah, Yeah Yeah
2000 was a great year for us Denim Boys and Girls, a Tribute Album to Turbonegro "Alpha Motherfuckers" was released, and those wonderful people at Bitzcore decided to re-release their first album with extra tracks. This meant that I no longer was in bidding wars with other Turbojugend on ebay to get my hands on this elusive piece of Death Punk.
Originally recorded in 1992 it is more metallic than their subsequent releases and Denim and Sailors are ... ...is represented on the intro to Kiss The Knife. The entire album is a raw and abrasive punk-metal beast from the fierce attack of "Librium Love" to the wonderful "Armed and Fairly Well-Equipped" which has a simply superb hook...... "Suburban Anti-Christ" is a ferocious 1 minute and 58 seconds dealing with growing up in suburbia obviously, Imagine The Ramones sexually abusing Black Sabbath in a dark alley way in Oslo and you have an idea what this ...

Welcome to the noise brigade
Advantages: Great ska-core from Boston's finest Disadvantages: At 33 minutes long it is hardly value for money
...that I get
5 - Let's face it
6 - That Bug Bit Me
7 - Another Drinkin' Song
8 - Numbered Days
9 - Break so Easily
10 - Nevermind Me
11 - Desensitized
12 - 1-2-8
The standout track has to be their first single from the LP which was 'The Impression that I get'. It is a great blend of traditional ska with a chorus that cranks up into a simple punk riff with a little restraint. Dicky Barrett, the gruff vocalist, really lets rip with his knackered ... ...he laments -
'I've never had to knock on wood
And I'm glad I haven't yet
'Cause I'm sure it isn't good
That's the impression that I get.'
'Royal Oil' is a slow ska track which was inspired by a politician from their home town Boston and 'Another Drinkin' Song' is a great track with a very traditional ska beat estolling the (non) virtues of drinking -
'What I've counted on to pick me up has knocked me to my knees.'
Track 8, 'Numbered Days', ...
