Another Sacred Opus For Lies I Sire
Advantages: epic, reflective, melancholic Disadvantages: lack in new tunes, repetetive themes
The last artistic creation by British doom fathers My Dying Bride. The band has gone through a lot in terms of line - up change and has also changed their style. Striving to keep up with their previous releases, they are losing the heart of the music they create. This album is of course flawless when listening how it is put together and how the musical career plays it's part in creating one more phenomenal album. This can only be achieved by a handful ... ...has been touched by God and has been given a task throughout it's lifetime. The band isn't capable of delivering another work of great appreciation. When listening to this album, anyone knowing My Dying Bride would recognize it straight away. It is very epic and and has some gothic shades to it. I had never thought of My Dying Bride as being death/doom metal, earliest Aaron's growling didn't mean it was death metal. Violin parts are back in this ...

The Unholy Trinity
Advantages: Powerful, moving, atmospheric, gives good cross-section of band's early years Disadvantages: Raw style may not appeal to some fans of bands later work.
'Trinity' is a collection of Yorkshire gothic doom legends My Dying Bride's first three EPs, released between 1991 and 1994. The first three tracks are from 'Symphonaire Infernus et Spera Empyrium', consisting of a mix slow and sludgy doom and mid-to-fast-tempo passages of unashamedly raw and uncomplicated rumbling death metal. The songs offer up some incredibly guttural and sickening growls courtesy of frontman Aaron Stainthorpe and have an ominous ... ...by funereal violin. The whole thing has a deep and oppressive groove to it, and represents the band at their most coarse and brutal. The next three tracks are taken from the band's 'The Thrash of Naked Limbs' EP, and here the emphasis is more on despondent, languishing riffs and more prominent sombre violin work, as the embryonic stages of their miserable-yet-melodic style begin to emerge. The songs still appear rough and dirty-sounding however, ...

My Dying Bride - Turn Loose the Swans
Advantages: Original, intense, powerful, melodic, epic Disadvantages: An acquired taste for those who don't like a challenge!
It seems that very few people have heard of My Dying Bride, outside of rock & metal circles. They've never made it big in the way that some of their contemporaries have, which to me is more than a shame- it's criminal. They are one of the most original bands of their kind and every new album brings with it something new to be admired.
"Turn Loose the Swans" was released in 1993, at a time when "goth metal" and "doom metal" was emerging (if only ... ...already achived a small measure of success, and My Dying Bride, who also hail from West Yorkshire, brought out this, their first (vaguely) commercial effort.
"Turn Loose the Swans" is dark, epic, and mournful, an album that suddenly turns from peace and tranquillity to visceral, shuddering noise- great slab-like riffs of enormously heavy guitar, and singer Aaron's guttural death-metal vocals accompanying the almost shocking strength and heaviness ...

Excellent British Doom
Advantages: Beautiful riffs and song structure, Disadvantages: Not a great departure from previous releases (although still excellent throughout)
...releases. Their ninth full length,A Line of Deathless Kings, is no exception. It's a very mellow album by their standards, with Aaron Stainthorpe employing clean sung vocals for almost its entire duration. Likewise, the songs maintain a slow and steady pace throughout, being for the most part unhurried and reflective. Woeful, heavy riffs give way to achingly beautiful harmonised twin guitar riffs that stretch to the heavens, whilst Aaron's dejected ... ...face. Although 'A Line of Deathless Kings' was supposedly written and recorded very quickly, the song structure is nevertheless excellent and superbly executed. Whilst very much in the vein of previous efforts for the most part, the new, mellower elements work extremely well and the album certainly has an identity of its own. Its nothing groundbreaking, its simply another beautiful, solid MDB album. Highly recommended. Summary: Mature, atmospheric ...

Rage Against The Machine Album Review
Advantages: Hard, unconventional rock Disadvantages: An acquired taste
Rap-Metal group Rage Against the Machine released their self-titled debut album in 1992, but the music is just as relevant today as it was back then. Songs like 'Take the Power Back' and 'Freedom' are about individual exploitation by the cultural, social, and political systems in society, and how the people must be willing to rise up and overcome such oppression. You may have also recently heard about the small matter of 'Killing in the Name' beating ... ...when you first listen to Rage is that they mean business. The whole album is intended to provide voice to the silent minority: Those individuals that feel neglected and abused are given hope through the band's resonant, unashamed, confrontational expression. Guitarist Tom Morello's anomalous riffs, rhythmic special effects and extended tapping techniques were some of the most powerful sounds to come from a guitar in that era, and remain unchallenged ...
