THE RISE
Advantages: The first of a two part album Disadvantages: You have to buy two separate albums
...is very unusual. The Neon God Part 1 subtitled The Rise (the second installment subtitled The Demise) is a 14 track cd that tells the story of a young orphan (Jesse Slane) who has been abused by the nuns that run the orphanage he is incarcerated in. Each of the 14 tracks charts a part of the story as the young orphan tries to come to terms with his own existence, the abuse he is suffering, the hypocrisy of religion, the discovery of the power of ... ...will worship him as the Neon God.
Each Track is loaded with classic W.A.S.P riffs that meld seamlessly with front man Blackie Lawless unique and unforgettable vocals, creating modern symphony that carry's on from track to track.
The tracks get better and better as they progress through the album culminating with The Raging Storm which will bring you out in goose bumps. Although there are 14 tracks four of them (2. why am I here, 5. why am I nothing, ...

Aural violence courtesy of Miss B
Advantages: great sound, strong personal lyrics and religious imagery - almost the prototype for My Ruin Disadvantages: some songs sound slightly reminiscent of each other
...song begging - "I need relief through release, I need to breathe, let me leave, release me please".
The intro to SCAVENGER HUNT gets your attention and you can't help but keep listening as Tairrie sings in hushed tones about this other person inside her, a voice who belittles her, telling her she's not good enough - her self esteem. It's affecting her so much that it's destroying her happiness - "when the boy has left you in the end pretend that ... ...like her, and in frustration cries "I'm so confused, why can't you see, she isn't me". It's an ongoing battle between trying to ignore the negative things in her head, and just being happy and healthy and able to maintain a relationship. The familiar guitar riff filled me with excitement as I realised the band had covered Nirvana's NEGATIVE CREEP. Featuring John Davis from Slick Fifty, Tura Satana truly make the song their own in what is one of most ...

A Band of Many Faces
Advantages: Seminal black metal album Disadvantages: Raw, primitive and offensive to Christians
...on to their first album, History of a Time to Come. The album is heavy thrash metal of a kind pioneered in the early eighties by Slayer - the guitar playing of Andy Sneap is only rarely double tracked, giving them a more basic feel than Slayer, but the high speed guitar riffs and shredding solos are thrash through and through. The drumming, unfortunately, is nothing like a brutal as Slayer at their best, but few drummers can match the skill of Dave ... ...problem is its determinedly primitive sound. These minor flaws, however, should not blind people to a flawed classic, and an essential record for the collection of anyone interested in the history of extreme metal, especially black and thrash metal. I can heartily recommend the album, if you can find it. ...

Rage Against The Machine Album Review
Advantages: Hard, unconventional rock Disadvantages: An acquired taste
Rap-Metal group Rage Against the Machine released their self-titled debut album in 1992, but the music is just as relevant today as it was back then. Songs like 'Take the Power Back' and 'Freedom' are about individual exploitation by the cultural, social, and political systems in society, and how the people must be willing to rise up and overcome such oppression. You may have also recently heard about the small matter of 'Killing in the Name' beating ... ...when you first listen to Rage is that they mean business. The whole album is intended to provide voice to the silent minority: Those individuals that feel neglected and abused are given hope through the band's resonant, unashamed, confrontational expression. Guitarist Tom Morello's anomalous riffs, rhythmic special effects and extended tapping techniques were some of the most powerful sounds to come from a guitar in that era, and remain unchallenged ...
