I can't believe I'm the first

Advantages: Iconic, pioneering, and just plain good
Disadvantages: Drum solo

...powerful sound. 2. Paranoid - do I have to tell you? I suppose they picked this one to release as a single as it's the right length and the most 'poppy'. 3. Planet Caravan - slow, wistful, melancholic, eerie, haunting, spacey, ethereal, poetic. A polished, shivers-down-the-spine track featuring understated jazzy guitar, proving that they can turn the volume down and still produce something distinctive and good. 4. Iron Man - grungy, daft, sci-fi ...
...by teenage boys of all ages. 5. Electric Funeral - Starts as pure grunge, speeds up, then goes grungy again. A short track with apocalyptic lyrics. 6. Hand of Doom - Slow, sinister, again with a fast bit in the middle. This appears to be an ANTI-drugs song. Did Ozzy heed his own warnings? (Well, he is still alive...) 7. Rat Salad - instrumental. A bit jazzy. The one with the drum solo, and mercifully short. I mean, I'm not completely against drum ...

Camp but not particularly funny

Advantages: Quite different
Disadvantages: Overly camp and under entertaining

The Dickies were a punk band from LA, a few of the band members are dead now after drug overdoses and as I wasn't around when they came out - I can't say I'd heard of them until a few years ago. I got a copy of their Punk Singles Collection which as you may have guessed, is a compilation of their best tunes. Currently described as camp and humorous, I'd agree with one of the two - I've never found American's campness particularly humourous but still ...
...and Graham Norton in a punk rock way. The reality was somewhat more bland, a rather straight band really when it comes down to it and anyone who says they are better than their LA rivals The Germs, is clearly not all there. Whilst Banana Splits may have been a popular hit in the UK once, it looks incredibly soft today, perhaps the best things are the fast and enjoyable covers of tracks like "Paranoid". Two bearable songs are "You Drive Me Ape" and ...

There Ain't No Glory In A War

Advantages: Excellent lyrics, fine melodies, super vocals, and fantastic musicianship.
Disadvantages: More pop heavy than other RX Bandits albums, this may put some listeners off.

When this 'Progress' album was released in 2001, the type of music that RX Bandits produce was greatly popular and in order to try and capitalise on the success of the Ska Punk genre the band here released a more pop heavy album than they ever had done before or in fact have done since. Less Than Jake and Reel Big Fish were always the leading names in the scene, RX Bandits failed to ever catapult to that sort of level of fame however but nonetheless ...
...and dedicated fan base. 'Progress' was not a great commercial success, nor did it receive any real rave reviews from the leading names in the press, it is however an excellent album from the band and one that I personally have a great love of. Fittingly beginning with an introduction track titled simply 'Intro', never does this 'Progress' album disappoint and always in fact it impresses hugely. There is some highly energetic music here, always these ...

The brilliant tenth album

Advantages: Brilliant, melancholic, fantastic gothic metal
Disadvantages: Unknown, hard to get hold of.

Paradise Lost, the sole creaters of Gothic Metal, have after 17 years of being together have produced their tenth studio album. The whole album is very good, the single Forever After is the only track that seems out of place, much more lets run about and have lots of energy rather than the melacholy you would expect from such goth gods. Even though it doesn't flow with the rest of the album it is still a great song. The album does need a few listens ...
...and album with a great guitar solo and the music and the lyrics are deeply moving. This album is great for anyone who likes the new wave of goth, well since all those bands copy this style so much you'd think Paradise Lost were copying from you favourite bands. ...

Rage Against The Machine Album Review

Advantages: Hard, unconventional rock
Disadvantages: An acquired taste

Rap-Metal group Rage Against the Machine released their self-titled debut album in 1992, but the music is just as relevant today as it was back then. Songs like 'Take the Power Back' and 'Freedom' are about individual exploitation by the cultural, social, and political systems in society, and how the people must be willing to rise up and overcome such oppression. You may have also recently heard about the small matter of 'Killing in the Name' beating ...
...when you first listen to Rage is that they mean business. The whole album is intended to provide voice to the silent minority: Those individuals that feel neglected and abused are given hope through the band's resonant, unashamed, confrontational expression. Guitarist Tom Morello's anomalous riffs, rhythmic special effects and extended tapping techniques were some of the most powerful sounds to come from a guitar in that era, and remain unchallenged ...
