Advantages: Pure brutal death metal that never stops the madness Disadvantages: It doesnt last forever
...opening track “The Time To Kill Is Now” starts as it means to go on, fantastic. “Make Them Suffer” being the next track pretty much takes the crown for me, its the best track, although not by much as most of the tracks are all out perfect. The last track “Infinite Misery” is a instrumental track which I was rather weary of as the band doesn't seem the type to be able to pull it off very well. How wrong I was. Showcasing there rather mouth opening ...
Advantages: Some accomplished bits. Disadvantages: Screaming and samey drum beats.
In Flames - Come Clarity
Yet another of my 14 year old (next months) son's offerings which he insists 'You must listen to this dad'. This is by no means my longest review as I am not going to 'fill' when I have not much to say.
Wikipedia tell me that these are a Swedish melodic death metal band.....not a good start, however, being am open minded dad I thought I should give them a a go. Though I do fail to see how Death Metal can be melodic, ho, ... ...5. Scream 6. Come Clarity 7. Vacuum 8. Pacing Death's Trail 9. Crawl Through Knives 10. Versus Terminus 11. Our Infinite Struggle 12. Vanishing Light 13. Your Bedtime Story Is Scaring Everyone I am not going to review every track as I have to say they are all quite similar. They are fast, drum based songs with some pretty fast and accomplished guitar work, both lead and bass. The vocals go from screaming to well, screaming. The intro drum work on ...
Advantages: Still decent musicianship Disadvantages: Vocals no where near as good as Tarja's, basically a poor version of earlier stuff
...of vocalist Tarja Turunen. Dark Passion Play was the first album without her, there had been a 3 year break and everyone was wondering how Swedish vocalist Anette Oldon would fair. By this time Nightwish had already started to become incredibly predictable and commercially everywhere that they were beginning to get on my nerves. This album was the chance to redeem themselves by creating something new with the new line-up, it seemed to me though that ... ...isn't as good as Once. Advantages: Fantastic album with consistent tracks, good lyrics, very melodic guitar playing. Disadvantages: A bit poor production, other than that..I dunno.?
For those who may not know: NWOBHM = New Wave of British Heavy Metal. :) 'Show No Mercy' is a fantastic album that is often over-looked by their most popular album that sold millions 'Reign in Blood'. Those who only concentrate on the only album is themselves losing out; as this is a fantastically solid album with 10 songs based pure speed/thrash with hints of NWOHBM. They refined this album as aggressive NWOHBM; which then lead to the ... ...might find it lacking in raw power/aggressiveness, they will find that instead interesting song-writing, great melodic solos and catchy riffs. Band Members Tom Araya : Vocals, bass Jeff Hanneman : Guitars Kerry King : Guitars Dave Lombardo : Drums The opening song 'Evil Has No Boundaries', this song is so utterly memorable; this is where the newcomer begins to realise the intensity, the speed, the brutal clean thrash style vocals ...
Advantages: Amazing musical talent is certainly displayed here. Disadvantages: Some tracks seem a little misplaced.
...riffs and growls of singing. Unia takes more of a relaxed pace, taking you hand-in-hand through it's tracks and gently guiding you through. You will not get instant gratification with this album, but give it a chance and a few more listens and you'll certainly reap the rewards. Excellent production value and an almost dream-like quality to the songs, Unia is something that deserves to be listened to more than once. ...
