... ...much like any live album, I would say to people, dont buy it untill youve heard the studio stuff, its not worth finding out about the songs for a live album, when you listen to a studio CD your listening to songs, when you listen to a live album, your hearing the band, in live, raw, gutfelt emotion. To buy this album with out hearing RATM would be stupid, but for fans, this CD captures Rage in their finest, sell out moment, with a belt full of hits ...

RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE
'Bombtrack'
'Landlords and power whores
On my people they took turns
Dispute the suits I ignite
And watch 'em burn'
The album opens on a great introduction to RATM. The composition, innovation and mood of the track hint at what is to come, but is relatively simple and easy going compared to later tracks. The track opens with a heavy riff from the guitar and angst ridden drums, but it ... ...bridge is formed of a simple guitar riff interrupted by muted guitar slides. 'Killing in The Name'
'Those who died are justified for wearing the badge, they're the chosen whites
You justified those that died by wearing the badge, they're the chosen whites' Opening with an explosive guitar riff with short sharp chords, before launching into their most infamous riff. This straight forward and anthemic rock track is instantly recognisable to just ...

First two albums from a truely original band
Advantages: Innovative guitar use and thought prevoking lyrics Disadvantages: Relentlessly heavy
In the early 90s innovative guitarist Tom Morello left his band 'Lock Up' and went in search of members for new band. After seeing rapper Zach de la Rocha playing a club he also enlisted drummer Brad Wilk and childhood friend Tim Commerford on bass. Calling themselves 'Inside Out' they put together they put together some demo tracks that would later evolve into the self-titled 'Rage Against the Machine'. This album also features Stephen Perkins on ... ...and Perfect Circle) for 'Know your Enemy'.
Released in 1992 their first album is renowned for it's high production values (some audiophile sites use tracks, in particular, 'Take the Power Back' to test speakers and amplifiers), original guitar techniques and it's hard line stance on political issues (covering social justice and equality). It was produced by Garth 'GGGarth' Richardson who has also worked with L7, Kerbdog, The Melvins, Rise Against ...

Such a shame Zack de la Rocha left...
Advantages: The best track by far is the version of Bob Dylan's 'Maggie's Farm.' Sheer class. Disadvantages: Innovative though it may be, 'Beautiful World' doesn' belong.
This is a must for all dedicated Rage fans, but those not familiar with the aggression, power and political and musical genius of Rage, his shouldn't be the first album of theirs that you buy (I recommend any of their other albums to anyone). This is a masterful collection, bringing together te styles of music that influenced arguably THE most innovative band in history. Opener 'Microphone Fiend' (originally penned by rapers Eric. B and Rakim) and ... ...Rage to have writte themselves, but there are ideas on this album many would not think associated to RATM, such as the cover of Devo's 'Beautiful World', where frontman de la Rocha actually sings rather than his usual... well, usual sound! This is a gem of an album, with everything one expects from Rage, and more. Their homage to long-time buddies Cypress Hill comes off with devestating effect, as does Springsteen's 'The Ghost of Tom Joad.' True ...

Rage Against The Machine Album Review
Advantages: Hard, unconventional rock Disadvantages: An acquired taste
Rap-Metal group Rage Against the Machine released their self-titled debut album in 1992, but the music is just as relevant today as it was back then. Songs like 'Take the Power Back' and 'Freedom' are about individual exploitation by the cultural, social, and political systems in society, and how the people must be willing to rise up and overcome such oppression. You may have also recently heard about the small matter of 'Killing in the Name' beating ... ...when you first listen to Rage is that they mean business. The whole album is intended to provide voice to the silent minority: Those individuals that feel neglected and abused are given hope through the band's resonant, unashamed, confrontational expression. Guitarist Tom Morello's anomalous riffs, rhythmic special effects and extended tapping techniques were some of the most powerful sounds to come from a guitar in that era, and remain unchallenged ...
