Advantages: A few really good tracks, some De La Soul tunes you have never heard before Disadvantages: The album has no flow, a few weak remixes
...***Warning*** This review does contain some edited adult language and themes. The words have been changed but the meaning is plain.
In the stacks of wax you can find the De La Mix: Remixes, Rarities & Classics, De La Soul's 2004 release on Tommy Boy/ Rhino. This is not so much a greatest hits as it is a revisiting in an alternate universe. Both commercial and critical successes are treated to a fresh dusting off, live performance or remix on this disk.
Laying down the Knowledge
For those of you that don't already know, De La Soul has been around since rap was just rap. Hip hop was just starting to take root as a music genre. There was just rap. When the boys from Long Island hit the scene there was the rap that played on the radio and the rap we listened to when our parents were out of ear shot. De La dropped 3 Feet High...

Advantages: Shrewd selection of songs, intelligently sequenced and tastefully executed Disadvantages: Her voice may not be to everyone's taste, prejudiced public perception may count against its chances

Advantages: Five bonus tracks added to the brilliant 12. Disadvantages: A scandolous price of just £4 from HMV!
...and it is really addictive. It really does sound like something you'd listen to on a boat, basking in the July sunshine. 8/10
There She Goes - The classic, numero uno. The one that gave The La's recognition, but nowhere near as much as they deserved. A great two string intro on guitar followed by some heavy yet seeming light drums all builds up to a great song and will have you out of your seat doing THE most ridiculous dance you will ever do. Believe me, it happens...
Doledrum - Another huge foot tapper. Mavers warns us not to go down to doledrum if we know what is good for us. An uplifting song for anyone feeling like they are stuck in a rut; encouraging them to get out and do something other than nothing. A very clever song. 8/10.
Feelin' - Summer tune all the way. It is yet another foot tapper and it will have you dancing (sensibly...
