This is the first installment from Me First and the Gimme Gimmes and to put it bluntly this album is brilliant. Me First and the Gimme Gimmes already had around 5 7" out but this is their first album. Me First and the Gimme Gimmes is a part time band which has members from many fine Punk bands such as NOFX, Lagwagon and many more.
This album is a tribute to 70s music, I think, or possibly a complete piss take, either way it is a great album. The album covers populor songs of the 60s and converts them into Punk, what more could you ask for? The originals! (well possibly?)
They cover such artists as: John Denver, Bily Joel, Cliff Richard, Niel Diamond, Elton John and many more. Here is a list of the tracks on the album:
1) Danny's Song 2) Leaving On A Jet Plane 3) Me & Julio Down By The Schoolyard 4) One Tin Soldier 5) Uptown Girl 6) I Am A Rock 7) Sweet Caroline 8) Seasons In The Sun 9) Fire And Rain 10) Nobody Does It Better 11) Many 12) Rocket Man
If you choose to listen to this album, this is a great way to get into Punk music. Although the album is short you don't mind as the quality of the music is so good. To find out more about Me First and the Gimme Gimmes go to the website: www.FatWreck.com.
Advantages: Awesome Punk Covers Disadvantages: Too short and not their best
...full length album and i have to say that they have done better, their most recent offering Take A Break being the best they have done.
When you see the ratings for Originality and Lyrics i think you would be better off ignoring any low scores here as they are, after all, someone else's songs and someone else's lyrics. ...

Advantages: Old songs punked up to date Disadvantages: Less than 30 mins of music!
...fantastic. All of the songs have been 'punked' up, obviously the rhythm is the same as the original all be it a little faster, all the guitars and drumming is faultless. The vocals are occasionally a little rough and throaty sounding, but I don't think it comes across as a bad thing. In my opinion Seasons In The Sun is the highlight of the album & Mandy is the one I'd most likely skip.
If you've heard any of the other CDs my Me 1st... then I think ... ...that breathes a breath of fresh air into old hits than the Gimme's.
Comparing this to the other Me 1st albums I think it's almost as good as 'Blow In The Wind' (the 3rd album) of which I like some of the songs more. There is no comparison to their 2nd album 'Are A Drag' which I thought was really weak and only had 1 good track: My Favourite Things
I know this is a short review but there's not really allot else to say, these are all good old songs ...

Additional notes
Album Notes: Inarguably the world's greatest punk-pop cover band, Me First & the Gimme Gimmes take on popular singles of the 1960s,'70s, and '80s with their 1997 Fat Wreck Chords debut, HAVE A BALL. Consisting of members of Swingin' Utters, NOFX, No Use for a Name, and other Cal-punk peers, the semi-supergroup gleefully tears through guitar-driven, abbreviated versions of easy-going tunes such as Paul Simon's "Me & Julio Down By the Schoolyard," Billy Joel's "Uptown Girl" (impressively nailing the vocal harmonies), and Neil Diamond's "Sweet Caroline," both paying tribute to and sending up the original numbers. For those seeking to jump into the Gimme Gimmes' reliably silly discography, this outing is a fine place to begin.
