...ALOHA FROM HAWAII is the soundtrack CD for the television special Elvis made in January 1973. The show was the first ever music concert broadcast live around the world via satellite, and was watched by an audience of over 1 billion people. The show was a fund-raising benefit to raise money for the Kui Lee Cancer Fund and amazingly the event raised over 3 times the estimate, making $75,000 for the fund. Although this sounds small for an event of this kind in this day and age, in 1973 this was a huge sum, and very surprising. The 25th anniversary CD features the full concert from 14 January 1973, and in addition it features a bonus 5 songs Elvis recorded after the concert, which were added to the US broadcast version of the show. ...This in my humble opinion is the king at his absolute majestic best. He never looked better, he never sounded better, and the mix of old and new numbers is, well , inspired! Date line January 14th 1973, the much maligned 'Colonel' has had an idea to make a World wide telecast using the brand new 'satalite' technology. Elvis will perform some of his greatest numbers as well as some newer tracks to a WORLD WIDE audience LIVE!!! At a rehursal show (also available on cd) Elvis has already recorded the whole show plus a handful of 'Hawaiian' trcks incase of a technical breakdown. The show will be performed infront of a live audience in Elvis's spiritual home of Hawaii. The audience have paid whatever they thought fit for their tickets and far from raising the target of $25,000 the fans have collectively paid some $75,000 for the honour... Read review

...love for music that shines out. The songs have feelings and can reach out and touch you as he sings them so well. Elvis also paid his tribute to Hawaii by performing some of the songs that were included in the soundtrack of his movie 'Blue Hawaii', which he made in Hawaii in the early 1960's. The beautiful 'Hawaiian wedding song' and the title track 'Blue Hawaii'. I believe that Elvis was the greatest live performer. The songs that he sang in Hawaii in 1973 still contain the same magic now as they did then. Watch the concert now and the passion and love for music that Elvis possessed is clear to see. This concert was ground breaking and was the first of it's kind to be globally broadcast by satellite and I don't think ever will again.... Read review
