titleswhat other quote-unquote 'experimental' band would christen their majestic soundscapes with names like "Daphne and the Brain", "The Sun Smells Too Loud", or "I Love You, I'm Going to Blow up Your School"?repeated listens see this record find a neat place in the band's canon, somewhere between the sonic bliss of Happy Songs for Happy People and the intricate melancholia of Mr Beast. Solely instrumental, it's an album that follows the latter-day Mogwai template of gently undulating peaks and troughs, rather than mountains and precipices. Which might sound less than scintillating, but these days Mogwai are less about dynamite dynamics and more about intricate melodies and songs that slowly, but grandly, wind their way to conclusions. The opening "I'm Jim Morrison, I'm Dead" starts with a gentle minor-key keyboard piece by Barry Burns, but gradually builds in mass to a white-out of sparkling guitars. "The Sun Smells Too Loud" is a more synthetic-sounding piece doused in thick, fuzzy effects and yearning melodies. Meanwhile, "Batcat" proves the band can still flex a muscle, a squalling barnstormer with a Hassidic-tinged melody that recalls "My Father, My King". Louis Pattison

Additional notes
Album Notes: Mogwai's sixth studio album is, as one might expect, a brooding and atmospheric collection, full of the band's exceptional use of dynamics and creation of hypnotic soundscapes. 'The Hawk Is Howling' is, however, partly more reflective than previous releases, perhaps sharing more in common with 2001's 'Rock Action'. Instrumentally the band have somewhat branched out, utilising light synthesizers on tracks such as 'The Sun Smells Too Loud'. For the first time since their debut 'Mogwai Young Team' LP, Andy Miller was on production duties. Recorded in notable Glasgow studio Chem 19 (run by the Chemikal Underground record label), this release sees Mogwai simultaneously stepping forward musically and returning to their roots.
Advantages: great graphics, great game, real tony hawk experience Disadvantages: none
...Tony hawks proving ground is one in a long line of Tony Hawk video games. Tony Hawk video games have been very popular throughout and Proving Ground is no different. Proving round is avalibleon many platforms from console gaming to portable gaming. The proving Ground I have is for the nintendo ds. At the time I bought it for about £8 from argos which at the time I remeber thinking that for a brand new ds £8 is a very good price. A bargain in other words and I wasn't disappounted. For £8 you expect the game to be alright but this went above my expectations.

Advantages: A musical experience from start to end Disadvantages: You might have to listen again
...of a simple piano melody being played time and time again. The background has a gentle techno beat with occasional synth noises along with a constant thump of the toms of the drums. This gradually builds up into a movement of excellence and leaves you hanging for the next song.
2. Glasgow Mega Snake (3.34)
This is possibly one of Mogwai's heaviest songs considering its only 3 minutes long. From start to end it is based around guitar riffs yet isnt hard on the ear, with a louder, heavier tone for the chorus. A great song, so popular it will be on the Tony Hawk's Project 8 computer game, one of the most popular games around.
3. Acid Food (3.41)
This song is a complete change. After GMS you wonder how you ended up here. This song is much quieter with nice guitar melodies and electronic drums. This song also introduces the voices of mogwai to...

Advantages: Good Game Play Disadvantages: Novilty wearing off
...Tony Hawks Proving Ground for the Wii....
Having only recently bought a Wii console I was a bit unsure as to what games to get that would have the best game play. Initially with the console I got more sport like games but because I purchased several of sport type games I was soon a little fed up and that took me to my local Game store where I swapped Mario Olympics for Tony Hawks Proving Ground (and Call of Duty).
The game was priced at £29.99pencebut luckily enough was on a boy one get one free offer so with the swap of my Mario game I only had to pay an additional £10 to get Tony Hawks and Call of Duty. I thought this a great deal.
The age rating on this game is a 12 so there is not really much blood and gore thankfully as it is only a skateboarding game! Now I have played many Tony Hawks games right from the first one...
