Advantages: Original, influential Disadvantages: Should have had more success
Hawkwind are one of those bands that a number of people have heard of, most people haen't bothered listening to, and very few people seem to know a lot about, despite a well-documented chronlogoy, a huge number of album, live album and compilation releases (many not even properly authorised) and a huge influence on rock music as we know it today.
Detractors of Hawkwind often refer to them as "that hippie band" or "those sci-fi nerds". There are many more facets to the band than that. For over thrity-five years they have been producing original, groundbreaking albums with styles varying from minimalist electronica to stripped-down stoner rock to metal to synth-pop and everything in between. Each album is different, and naturally with such a quirky band the quality can vary from release to release. Nevertheless, Hawkwind have been ...

Advantages: Few extra minutes added to vinyl version Disadvantages: DVD has no concert footage
. There are a few notes about how the sales of "Silver Machine" (no 1 in UK and other European countries) allowed the band to stage Space Ritual in the first place.
Overall I'd recommend this to anyone who wants a record of how good Hawkwind could be when they were all friends and their live shows were second to none. You will be disappointed if you want footage of the concert in question though.
If you want those few extra minutes of the concert that fade out on the vinyl version then buy this. You can always use the DVD as a coaster!
If you're happy to miss out on those extra minutes, then buy the remastered CD which is several pounds cheaper.
Available from all good record shops (and a few bad ones) and all the usual online suppliers. The RRP (if there is still such a thing) is about £15.00, but you may be able to get it for less ...
Advantages: Full show, 5.1 sound, bonus interview with Dave Brock Disadvantages: One small gripe - Arthur Brown ad libs too much!
This is the most recent concert DVD release from Hawkwind. Recorded in Newcastle in 2002, the line up is Dave Brock, Huw Lloyd Langton, Tim Blake, Richard Chadwick, and very special guest on vocals - Arthur Brown (he of the 60's classic hit 'Fire' by the Crazy World of Arthur Brown). All in all this is a great concert with a mix of old classics and newer material. Soundwise it is superb with a great 5.1 mix which gives it much more of a proper live feel, especially if you can turn the volume up!
