Advantages: interesting story, excellent acting, Disadvantages: expected more
expected, yet produced some awesome performances. Inparticular little, Ann Paquin, the devoted daughter and voice of Ada to the outside world puts in a great performance.
I found that the movie lacked more storyline and failed to deliver what it could have. While each actor convinced, the overall movie failed to convince.
Ada plays a mute, a sullen soul, whos only passion is the piano (and daughter?)
Little Flora takes the role of Adas mouth and her communication to the outside world. One feels she has grown up before her time and Ann Paqun plays this perfectly.
Stewart a good man, trying his best for his new family is only human as we see.
George on the other hand seems to want what Stewart has got.
To not spoil the plot, i wont go into detail but I would recommend the film despite it not being what I would expect from an Oscar ...

The Piano Teacher
The Piano Teacher is a subtitled film of the Phycological Drama genre. Released in 2001 it is also known by it's French name La pianiste. Directed by Michael Haneke, it is based on the novel by Die Klavierspielerin which won a Nobel Prize for Literature in 2004.
Graphic in it's content this film delves into the darker side of sex, including fetishism, bondage, and sado/masochism. It also touches
on the delicate subject of genitalia self harm. This is not a light film, and is not recommended for family viewing. ~

The music was composed by Michael Nyman, noted as a modernist and a minimalist. This is by far the most popular of Nyman's compositions, because of its easily accessible melodies and especially for the solo piano music. Nyman writes: "I began creating Ada a folio of material that I imagined she had in her head, that her fingers carried around with her, almost as if she had been the composer of it. It had to be "possible" mid ...
