Toni Braxton used to be the epitomy of true R&B. Her songs were luscious and soulful, simple and heartfelt, and real rhythm and blues in every sense. But with her comeback hit "He Wasn't Man Enough" it has become clear that she's ditching her roots and heading for the mainstream R&B/pop sound that is cruising the charts at the moment.
That's not necessarily a bad thing. Toni Braxton is a strong vocalist and this track received a lot of airplay. She's young, attractive, talented and the ideal "product" for the current music marketplace. The track itself is catchy, sing-a-long-able and very well done. After a couple of listens you'll be hooked and want to hear it again and again. Grab the single if you don't believe me; it's worth it. Braxton has done a good job of blending R&B/pop with her natural soulful sound. Her voice is distinctive and she's filling a niche in the market.
Let's just hope she keeps sight of her identity and doesn't let her music become over-commercialised.
