Kent label and features 20 soul psalms to high infidelity. The majority of these cuts date from the liberal, post-pill, pre-AIDS 1970s. Typical is "Dark End Of The Street". A much covered Chips Moman and Dan Penn composition, singer James Carr provides the definitive version, his distressed delivery articulating the insidious fear of discovery, "They're gonna find us" but with a hint of redemption. Prior to the late 60s, soul divas were traditionally compelled to portray the submissive role. Their "hymns to him", often as not penned by men, habitually cast them as desperately foraging for a man to love and having collared one they were prepared to suffer almost any indignity to keep him. Now there was a new breed of shrewdly formidable females who refused to kow-tow to this antiquated, frankly misogynistic perspective. Theirs was a feminist agenda that potently proclaimed ladies had the same "love rights" as fellas. Sisters doin' it themselves include Millie Jackson's tortured "(If Loving You Is Wrong) I Don't Want To Be Right" and Ann Peebles' "Breaking Up Somebody's Home", with Ann declaring, "Got nowhere to turn, tired of being alone, feel like breaking up somebody's home." If Loving You Is Wrong is fiercely funky, sinuously soulful, cunningly compiled with superbly informative sleeve notes and if soul is your bag, damn well essential.--Chris King
Advantages: Top quality tracks Disadvantages: none
...This is the essential purchase for all fans of Punk. In 5 CDs it highlights all the major bands, bands you may have heard of and complete no hopers who made one glorious single. Reviewing the disks individually:-
Disk 1:
This one has all the big names , clash, pistols, damned, ramones, and buzzcocks who all have great songs included. Other outstanding tracks are the Adverts - "one chord wonders" and the saints - "stranded". Most of the tracks are Ramone's style thrash and none the worse for this.
Disk 2 :
Includes the Jam, stranglers, Generation X and the undertones. Top tracks are X-Yay Spex and Stiff Little fingers - this is more accessable punk
Disk 3 :-
This is new wave and has no well known names but tracks by Klark Kent, Heartbreakers, and the Flys are excellant. Only let down by the Electric Chairs "F**k off" which sounds very...

Advantages: Beautiful Disadvantages: You'll cry for hours
...Heartbreaker is filled with so much pain, sadness and complete devestation all carried in the soul destroying voice of Mr Adams. Instantly you'll be sucked into a beautiful, yet delicate little world where you'll yearn for your lost loves and reach out for anyone. I desperately desired to give Ryan a major hug as his voice is truly one of the most beautiful in the world and it really hurt me to hear it , but you just cant stop listening. Ryan Adams is such a heart playing artist, every word sung reflecting his feelings. His pain mirroring that of many people across the world somehow comforts you a little and you just want to lie in bed for hours and contemplate everything. highlights for me include, Call me On Your Way Back Home and Come Pick Me Up, both rhythmic, soulfilled sweeties but I must say everyone on this album is a gem...

Advantages: Read it to find out. Disadvantages: None
...This is the only Mariah Carey CD I own and I must say I was not at all disappointed with it.
Rainbow consists of 14 tracks including funky R&B 'How Much', featuring Usher (remember him?), 'X-Girlfriend' and 'Did I Do That?' as well as many others, and the soulful ballad 'After Tonight'. There's the remix of the hitsingle 'Heartbreaker' and the cover version of Phil Collins 1984 classic, 'Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now)' which MAriah gives her own special touch with her powerful voice.
Mariah worked with a number of artists to produce this album so it covers many styles of music.
I think this album has proved Mariah to be one of the best singers of all time. Is it any wonder she was the bestselling female artist of the 90's?
This is certain to have you singing along in no time!...
