thriving sphere of nu-metal, and there is an often-fascinating legion of young pretenders desperately eager to set the agenda. Spineshank, however, appear to have forgotten that it takes a little more than misanthropic attitude and clunkily applied samplers to spar with anAntichrist Superstar. Sure,The Height Of Callousnessis deeply trendy, clenching the shouty industrial hip-hop template for all it's worth, and even hooking in sometime Rage Against The Machine producer GGGarth to work the controls--but with the likes of "New Disease" and, hmm, "Cyanide 2600" offering precious little content between their substantial clichés and self-deluded futurism, this is an album that just begs to be consigned to a pigeonhole. When this stuff works--see the electrified taboo pantomime of Static X'sWisconsin Death Trip, or the none-more-black gothic mass of NIN'sThe Downward Spiral--it's always because there's a splendidly contrary charisma acting as ringmaster to the whole bleak circus. Here? Well, let's just say that all this negativity isn't making any positives; by following the nu-metal rule book to the letter, Spineshank have rendered themselves entirely pointless. --Louis Pattison

Spine shanks music is nu-metal/Heavy metal. It is really quite hard to say what type of music it is exactly because its not heavy metal like slipknot, its not metal like fear factory and its not nu-metal like papa roach its like a mix of all types of metal music. So as you may well have guessed the album is noisy and loud. Which I think is great, but I’m sure all of you older ciaoers out there would disagree with me.
The vocals in the album are very good. The balance is just right between singing and screaming. All the words are sung in a kind of long dreary voice followed by screaming and various other moaning and groaning noises. I think all the vocals fit in quite nicely with the music. The backing vocals in some of the songs are screamed Aswell, but like the normal vocals they fit in quite well and make the sang sound really good. However sometimes the backing vocals are a bit hard to hear. The lead singer is a very good one although because of his singing style it is hard to say weather or not he is talented.
The guitaring in the album is also very good. The guitarists are each individually skilled and they can all play very well together to create a traditional metal sound. However in one or two songs I feel that the notes on guitar notes are held on for a bit to long, this makes the song more eary which Is good and bad.
The drumming in this album is there and the album would not be the same without it, But in certain places they really are just not noticed as the guitars drown the sound of them out to a certain extent. However when you can here the drums prominently they are very well played and really do sound quite good. Its a shame that the guitars drown them out in certain songs.
There is no DJ in this band. Or if there is its hardly noticeable. Which is not really a let down because the music sounds so good anyway although it would be nice to here a few prominent bits of scratching during the album. Not to bothered about that though.
Each song on the album follows a different beat and a totally different tune and I do not find it repetitive at all. However the vocals are usually the same screaming. Together the band produce a really good sound. Its heavy enough to be classified as heavy metal but its more synchronised than that and its not as synchronised as nu-metal. Its in some limbo between Heavy metal and nu-metal.
The most famous song on the album is new disease. The reason it is more popular then the others is because its not as heavy. Personally I find this song really repetitive and boring, although its still good for a listen every now and again.
My favourite song on the album would have to be "Synthetic" It is a real good sound. The guitar tempo is fast and furious and the drumming is prominently heard during this song. The vocals are great. Its is mainly singing, although there is a fair bit of screaming in it. The backing vocals are all screeched out really loud. It really is a great song.
The consistency of the tracks really is good. Not once did I find myself bored whilst listening to this album and some of the songs just have you sitting there begging for more. However I do find that the lyrics in two songs seem basically the same. But that little problem can be forgiven very easily.
The lyrics really are of a somewhat unique style and sung/screamed in a very interesting manor, as I previously mentioned.
The album cover is very basic and not really that impressive. It has some kind of weird head shape on it with spine shank written across it. On the back of the CD case is a picture of the band and all the track listings and usual stuff such as copyright information etc.
The inlay of the album is not really rememrable. Although it has all the basic stuff like lyrics and record labels in it.
Due to the no-repetitive manor of the album I think that its shelf life is going to be a very long time. I have had the album for a month and I’m still listening to it a lot. I reckon this album really will be a timeless classic, well until when I grow up a bit and start listening to radio 5 that is.
I would have to conclude that this album is a must for any nu-metal/metal fans and really is a timeless classic to all those metal heads out there. It really is great and really should be brought straight away. Thanks for reading. Edd.
Advantages: Big and heavy guitar riffs, reasonable price Disadvantages: Electronic drums
'The Height Of Calousness' was the first reward that I claimed from "i-points.co.uk". It arrived after five days, so that's a well done to "101cd.com". When I first listened to it I wasn't that impressed, I had heard 'Synthetic' and 'New Disease' on the TV
and I liked them, but it wasn't as good as I had been expecting. However, when I got home from school, I listened to it again, it seemed to be better (or maybe I was just listening more carefully ... ...with your lies"

Advantages: Some absolutely pounding tracks, great vocals. Disadvantages: "Cyanide 2600" track just doesn't fit in, quite short.
This album was released before I even knew it, and being a fan of the first album "Strictly Diesel" I was ecstatic when my friend simply produced it from his pocket. Needless to say I borrowed it from him but was in absolutely no way prepared for the onslaught that was to follow as soon as it was placed in my CD player.
Thirty seconds into track 1, "Asthmatic", my jaw was already on the floor...I knew i was going to love this album. The style of ... ...better - a more refined, confident sound without losing what fundamentally made the band in the first album. This album really is a relentless stream of ferocity from start to end, containing some fantastic tracks like the immensely catchy "New Disease" and "Synthetic", which will have you screaming along to the chorus every time.
The closing tracks "Negative Space" and "Transparent" are the album's lyrical highlights, not to mention that they are ...

Advantages: song upon song of glorious headbanging metal Disadvantages: neighbours
...buy their new album "the height of callousness". not a bad descision seeing how the album explodes with power and force out of any speakers.
the first song, "asthmatic", is so incredibly mettally and fast, it really is a good song to kick the album off. the album is then followed by song after song of glorious headbanging metal. YEAH!!! with such great songs as "seamless", "(can't be) fixed", "play god" and "malnutrition", it must be said that this ... ...only one song on the album, that i feel is lacking in what the rest of the albums songs have and that is "cyanide 2000". but thats my view and you may keep a different one.
the inlay isnt that special, but it doesnt need to be since the music removes your attention from it.
unfourtunately i can not compare it with their previous release however and so i cant say how it compares but, the album is overall actually incredibly good and so i highly ...

Advantages: The whole album is amazing except for one song Disadvantages: Cyanide is a really rubbish song
...mixture of songs on 'The Height of Callousness', they range from heavy, like 'Play God' or 'Height of Callousness', to slightly softer and melodic songs like 'New Diesease' and 'Negative Space'.
But all the songs except one are really really good! The one song which I do not like is 'Cyanide', it is very crap. It is a fast song with dodgy vocals.
This is the only downfall of the album which I really do adore. You should go out and buy this! ...

Advantages: Good Songs, Bound to appeal to fans of Linkin Park, Slipknot etc Disadvantages: Too short!
I have to confess I had never heard of SpineShank before I bought this Album, but now I can say I am a fan of them. SpineShank are like a cross between Linkin Park & Slipknot. So if you are fan of either of those two bands you will surely like SpineShank. The album itself is quite short it only has 11 Tracks, and an overall length of about 38mins. But this does not take any quality away from the album, the songs are great. I particularly recommend ...

Album Notes
Spineshank: Jonny Santos (vocals); Souren "Mike" Sarkisyan (guitar); Rob Garcia (bass, background vocals); Tommy Decker (drums, programming). Producers: GGGarth, Tommy Decker, Mike Sarkisyan. Recorded at Mushroom Studios, Vancouver, Canada. Spineshank has an ax to grind; hopefully it won't end up in your face. Sepultura and Fear Factory are the touchstones here, and the best of both bands is appropriated: cookie monster vocals are present and correct, the drums pound (in the case of "Cyanide 2600," there's a palpable jungle influence that's effective in the extreme), and energy and angst levels are turned up to 11. "Never wanted this life because it's meaningless," they chant, in a strangely infectious way on "Seamless," leaving the casual listener wondering how long they can keep this level of torment up. Ripping through songs such as the title track and "Asthmatic," with lyrics that castigate enemies both real and imagined, the band sounds powerful and focused throughout--just be glad it's not you they're focused on.
