Hip hop is not suppose to be perfect. It is suppose to break rules and channel emotions to the rest of the world who may or may not be familiar with life in the PJ's. Yes, this is a nihilistic record and the subject material may be monotonous at times. However, you don't need to make a groundbreaking record to be great. P and Hav come across tough on their albums only because being a punk where they are from will get you bodied (killed). I wish everyone could rap as happy as Will Smith but we can't. We need artists like Mobb Deep to reflect the dark realities of street life so the gangsta government and mainstream media can't brainwash the masses. Violence has fueled hip hop like it does Hollywood. With that being said, this album is dope from tracks 1-14. It is the overlooked gem in the Mobb Collection. The beats put me to a place i've never been before...HELL! What lyrics lack in subject matter make up for in delivery and wordplay. "Drop A Gem On Em," sports a chilling female vocal sample in which P spits venemous barbs at a certain legendary emcee (battling is an essential component of this culture). The title track and "Godfather Part III" were great choices for singles, due to their irresistibly haunting instumentals and catchy hooks. The crown jewel for me was "Extortion" which would make an Alfred Hitchcock movie look like the Mr. Rogers theme song. Method Man spits one of my all-time favorite quotable verses. Be sure to peep Raekwon the Chef on the equally eerie "Nighttime Vulture's".
This album is Flawless by far the best that mobb deep have ever made, this album is on Loud Record label and to my knowledge the beats are created by Havoc one half of the Mobb Deep.

Advantages: Range of Producers LittleJon, Kayne West Disadvantages: Not consistent as Hell on Earth
This is a good album from MobbDeep and has some real classic tunes but it lacks what some of their early material features, Hell on earth for instance was a flawless album in my opinion,
However this album has a range of producers and includes a track called Real Gangstarz which is produced by Lil Jon and another track produced by Kayne west called Throw your Hands (in the air) which is one of the stronger tracks on this album.
Two of the best tracks have got to be When u hear the which is an alchemist beat and has the real MobbDeep feel to it, another great track on this alubm is the massive hit Got it twisted, i recon this track is heavy, lyrics really gave me a buzz with a catchy chorus.
Over all this isnt the best album by Mobb and some of the tunes are more chilled out compared to some of the earleier tunes but its a good album ...
Advantages: Traditional Mobb Deep Street Lyricism, Havoc's remarkably brilliant production, Social Consciousness, Some Excellent Guests Disadvantages: Some Filler, Some Commercialism, Softer than previous albums
From their debut, MobbDeep have always been a force to be reckoned with. Since their onset, they have always been a unique group, and that fact has always stretched them throughout their career. Their debut Juvenile Hell was average, but overlooked, and it was not until The Infamous, that the team of Prodigy and Havoc would get critical acclaim. Many believe that 1994's The Infamous was the defining moment of MobbDeep and the pinnacle of their sound, but they managed to duplicate it on 1996's Hell on Earth. The Mobb has managed to deliver, not one, but two extremely dark and gripping, yet classic albums. In 1999, after taking a much needed vacation, MobbDeep returned with their fourth LP Murda Muzik...

Album Notes
HELL ON EARTH is an Enhanced CD which contains regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files, including a video. Mobb Deep: Havoc, Prodigy (rap vocals). Additional personnel includes: Nas, Raekwon, Method Man, Big Noyd, General G, Ty Knitty, Gambino (rap vocals). Engineers: Mario Rodriguez, Kenny Ifil. Recorded at Platinum Island Recording Studios and Axis Recording Studios, New York, New York. Mobb Deep's 1995 classic, THE INFAMOUS, was that kind of album that could silence other MCs. On HELL ON EARTH, the duo continues to deliver hard-core production and vocals that rage with anger. Never smiling and always painting their lifestyle with harsh lyrics, rappers Havoc and Prodigy are still the most feared rappers east of the Mississippi. HELL ON EARTH's dark production lays the ground for both Havoc and Prodigy to catch wreck on this, their third album. Hav's in-your-face rhyme style and Pee's eerily monotonous flow bring drama to each of the 14 tracks. Visited by a wicked lineup of guest artists (including Nas, Raekwon and Method Man), Mobb Deep turn HELL ON EARTH into a lyrical battle field.
Album Reviews
Q (7/01, p.88) - Included in Q's "50 Heaviest Albums of All Time". The Source (12/96, p.123) - 4.5 Mics (out of 5) - "...Mobb Deep are probably the most intense, most authentic, most powerful practitioners of a specifically Eastern hardcore feel to touch the mic this decade..." Rap Pages (12/96, p.31) - "...jewels bright enough to truly shed light on what's going on in the QB projects....Mobb Deep have made another soundtrack for the StrEASTs....classic material..." Vibe (12/96, p.165) - "...Even darker than its predecessor, HELL ON EARTH is yet another astounding work that impresses with its unswaying devotion to the group's disturbingly insular environment....Truly hip hop's antiheroes..." Spin (1/97, p.88) - 8 (out of 10) - "...pursues retribution like Charles Bronson in the Death Wish flicks. If the subject matter is somewhat limited to this 'I'm gonna get you first, sucka' motif--well, Mobb Deep's big payback always sounds bitchin'..." Q (6/00, pp.126-8) - 4 stars out of 5 - "...Inflates every cliche about life on the street...until they reached biblically fantastic proportions....As guides to the Big Apple go, it's a stylish, wonderfully exaggerated hoot." Entertainment Weekly (11/22/96, p.138) - "...this young rap duo creates a haunting portrait of New York-style thug life. Into a thumping mix where gunshots clash with eerie strings, Mobb Deep drop urban folk tales of violence and retribution over the crackle of scratchy vinyl..." - Rating: B+
