The first thing to note is the great liner notes - the lyrics are laid out in the style of a comic strip and it's one of the most well thought out booklets I've ever seen. The cover shows a guy diving into a swimming pool in a suit!
There’s one thing that you really can’t fault most punk and ska band’s for – value for money. Hello Rockview has 14 tracks and the double CD version also has the video for “All My Best Friends Are Metalheads”. So what are the tracks like?!
Last One Out Of Liberty City (2.03)
Very punk. Very quick pace and pretty uninspiring to begin with, but with a change of pace the ska shines through for a second giving you a glimpse of some of the treats ahead. Brass section is good but criminally resigned to the background. A good start but it gets better….
Help Save The Youth Of America From Exploding (2.56)
Great title - starts off like a demo track (poor recording!) before bursting into life. A sing-along-able chorus but definitely punk not pop-punk. “Remind me how this is the same old story of growing up and getting lost”…. Again another change of pace gives a different feel to the song.
All My Best Friends Are Metalheads (3.33)
“This is a fair request and I promise I will not judge any person only as a teenager.” So starts by far the best track on the album. This was also the most publicised as it was released as a single. Chris Moyles even played it on Radio 1! Ska inspired and slower than the previous tracks, this will get you singing along and bouncing around your bedroom. The lyrics are about not really knowing anything about other people around you.
Five State Drive (2.51)
Great bass line to start another quick paced song with another sing-along-able section – “By now I think I’ve found, things changed just don’t look that way to me”. A good track.
Nervous In The Alley (2.55)
I really like this one. It’s another more ska inspired track. The lyrics seem to be about whether you’d “raise a fist” if you had to or whether you’d stand there feeling hopeless – it’s basically about standing up for yourself
Motto (3.16)
Very quick bassline but not my favourite from the album. The lyrics are shouted rather than sung (something that may well appeal to a lot of punk fans, but not me). The chorus section is less shouty and more tuneful, but they seem to let speed get in the way of the melody a lot of the time. When they slow down, the song works better.
History Of A Boring Town (3.24)
Another one I like. It’s about growing up but not moving on – getting stuck in the same boring life in the same boring town. Again this is slower and works better than some of the faster tracks on the album. The brass section is more obvious on this track.
Great American Sharpshooter (1.30)
Another pretty quick track but it does have fantastic Ramones inspired “woh, oh, oh, oh, ooooo-o—ooh” backing vocals which a very entertaining!
Danny Says (2.56)
Quick one again but great brass stuff, this is about getting ‘burnt-out’. This features a few changes of pace and is pretty catchy with more “ooo-ooo-ooo-oh” on it!
Big Crash (2.45)
One of my favourites. This has a very catchy chorus and is a slower track. “Big plans, big crash, why be different when you can’t by yourself”
Theme Song For H Street (2.46)
This one feels like a filler and doesn’t really have anything to recommend it apart from the total change of pace half way through the track which is far superior to the rest of the song!
Richard Allen George… No, It’s Just Cheez (1.47)
This song gets top marks in my book basically because it contains the line “Chesterfield, where the keg’s never dry, it’s always filled” – I live in Chesterfield! For the none locals (!), this is a really short track with viciously quick choruses and slower ska verses. The track finishes and an extra track is tagged on the end featuring the obviously drunk band singing “ The kids that are hip, they grow hair on their lip, they throw down their razor they don’t give a s**t” – weird!
Scott Faracs Takes It On The Chin (2.36)
I LOVE SKA! Admittedly this isn’t your normal ska track as it’s played at a frantic pace for the most part, but it is obviously ska. This is another track about getting stuck in the town you grow up in and trying to get out. I like this one a lot – ska, loads of pace changes and good lyrics.
Al’s War (3.04)
Pretty quick again, non-memorable verses, catchy choruses, strange pace change near the end. Not the best track to end the album with, but ok.
VIDEO – All My Best Friends Are Metalheads
If you’ve got auto play enabled, a yellow menu should appear when you put the CD in the CDROM drive (if not you’ll have to click on the drive to run the video). This is a pretty basic bit of multimedia which allows you to play the movie, install media player (which you need to play the video!) or, and I quote, “Browse More Cool CD’s Online”. The video itself is a pretty low budget affair, but it seems to capture the mayhem of Less Than Jake’s live performances.
Is it worth my money?
Well, yes and no. No self respecting punk/ska fan should not own “All My Bestfriends..” because it’s such a great song, but for me the album is just to ‘samey’ for want of a better word. The pace doesn’t seem to change too much on the album as a whole (although within each song the speed can change dramatically!), which is a shame because I think the slower songs are often better. They can be wonderfully catchy, but at the same time by very forgettable – a mixed bag!

Advantages: Great vocals, great music Disadvantages: music in general is over priced
...favourite albums by them called Hello Rockview. I prefer this album because I think it is the one where the singer uses his voice to its full potential.
The albums consists of 14 fast and upbeat songs which cannot be missed by any ska fan.
Track Listing:
1: Last One out of Liberty City - What a great opener, a very fast song which a great intro. It puts you in a great mood for the whole album with full use of brass and ska riffs on the guitar ... ...The Youth Of America From Exploding - I love this song and it has a great beginning with a cool distorted voice followed by a quality guitar solo.
3: All My Best Friends Are Metalheads - This has to be the best song on the album. This is the song that everyone sings along to. With a bit of speech at the start. This is a very happy song with superb brass support.
4: Five State Drive - Another great song with an instrumental intro topped off by the ...

Advantages: Quirky, catchy and fun! Disadvantages: Over too soon.
The sextet's fifth album is punk rock at it's absolute best. Upbeat and pleasing, every song wonderfully catchy. Most definitely the record to play all summer long, outdoors in the sun with a barbeque and some beer. The highlights of this album are the amazingly tuneful "All My Best Friends Are Metalheads" and "History of a Boring Town". Less Than Jake's Bosstones influenced style brings trumpets galore, and is sure to bring a smile to the face of ...

On hearing Less Than Jake for the firast time I couldn't believe how good they sounded. The album "Hello Rockview" was my first taste of Less Than Jakes ska-punk sound and I liked it. The album flowed extremly well and the upbeat possibly chirpy sound pleased me every time I listened to it. Its been over a year since I bought the album and it is still at the front of my pile of CDs to listen to.
I can also say that you will listen to the album and ... ...songs? Most bands usually have one or two suspect songs on their CDs, but Less Than Jake seemed to have mastered their song writing ability for "Hello Rockview". This album is a true classic and will hold its appeal for a very long time.
The album inlay is also quite a treat, you get all the lyrics for the songs, nothing exceptional about that, but they way they are written in very original. The lyrics are written in as a series of Cartoon strips, ...

Advantages: Up-beat, the songs make you happy....no really, have you tried dancing to them naked early in the morning?? Disadvantages: Short as usual
I use this CD to wake me up in the mornings, and it works really well as the songs are so upbeat - the only problem is that they're so catchy, I can't get them out my head for the rest of the day and find myself singing them quite loudly at work...oops! This being the first LTJ album I have bought, I can't really compare their work to the expected standard, but I can say that their mix between ska and a bit of punk is great for those who would like ...

Advantages: Some fantatsic songs, LTJ style ska punk. Disadvantages: I'm gonna risk it.. (Please don't shoot me), not as good as 'Losing Streak'
A great album by the boys from Gainesville, California. Probably their best known album, as it contains some of their more famous songs, and defiantly a quality release. The band are currently signed to ‘Fat Wreck records’ which almost guarantees quality punk music, which is exactly what Less that Jake provide… in their own way. Their clever mix of guitars and brass instruments allows them to pull of some clever melodies and even ... ...key, and LTJ deliver it in a 40 minute 14 track format.
This particular album comes with a mix of tracks, from great, to good and then there are a few less enjoyable tracks. They don’t spoil the album though, and you can still put the CD on and leave it running without the need to skip tracks. When the tracks are good, they really are good! ‘Help save the youth of America from exploding’ is a wonderful song, fast and full of classic ...

Advantages: Great melodies, catchy lyrics Disadvantages: none!
This is a fantastic early Less then Jake album, and a must-have for all LessThanJake Fans. Its also a great introduction to the band for all those who like punk/ska music.
LessthanJake's first release was Pezcore on Dill records in 1994. Following that was Losers, Kings and Things we don't understand in 1995. Losing Streak was originally released in 1996 on Capitol Records, and HelloRockview followed two years later. They were re-released as a double album in 2000. Later full length albums by the band are Borders and Boundaries (2000), Anthem (2003) and In with the out crowd (2006).
HelloRockview is more 'mainstream' LessThanJake, being classic punky ska, while songs on Losing Streak put heavier emphasis on a ska style horn section. The fact that its almost a 'buy one get one free' with two full length albums (31 tracks ...
This is the most receant release from LessThanJake, it follows on from HelloRockview/ losing streak, which was in my opinion the best lessthanjake albums so it had to be good. When you first listen to it, it sounds a little like most lessthanjake tracks but the good news is that they havent lost their ska punk feel...the best track on the album is "Look What Happened", which starts off as one of the only slow LTJ songs but finishes with the usual lessthanjake guitars and trumpets....it is well worth buying for not only hardcore fans but also anyone who likes good ska punk music. I wouldnt say it was any better thanHelloRockview but it is worth adding to your collection. ...
Advantages: more less than jake to listen to Disadvantages: id rahter listen to the previous releases
i got really exited after i heard news of the new ltj album. as i listened to it i heard none of the old skary style but a more punky, rocky feel to the album. at first i didnt like this and the album got buried under other ltj releases such as pezcore, the original piece of genius and hellorockview, the best album to date (in my opinion). however, when i saw the almighty lessthanjake live on the borders and boundires tour, i became very impressed with hte songs they played from the album. (magnetic north, suburban myth, look what happend, gainesville rock city, pete jacksons getting married and last hour of tyhe last day of work).i started listening to the album again and enjoyed listening to these particular songs. however the rest of the album still didnt match up to the previous releases and will never be as memorable such as ...
