Hi-Yo Silver Away - Lone Ranger

Advantages: Good songs
Disadvantages: Lacking Madness charm

...Suggs, as we all know, is the lead singer of Madness. This is his solo effort, and what an effort it is. His first cd, Lone Ranger, may not have the charm of Madness, but it's still pretty damn good. This is evident in songs like I'm Only Sleeping, a great Beatles cover; Alcahol; 4am; The Tune, which is more reminiscent of Madness, and ofcourse the album's best song, Camden Town which was a rather big hit. Most of the other songs are good, with a weaker track here and there. A better one is Cecilia, the Simn and Garfunkel song, which he does pretty well. Well, now that Madness are back together, let's hope we can expect better things from Suggs and the rest of the nutty boys.... Read review

...you without a care in the world. Pauls links to rock are also clear with songs such as Hi Hi Hi, and Junior's farm that contain riffs and guitar work that are basical staple rock. Meanwhile Another Day, No More Lonely Nights and My Love show Paul's ability to create softer more somber songs and even songs with a higher tempo, in a sad lonely mood. Band on the Run, live and Let Die, Mull of kintyre and Uncle Albert all give insight into Paul's need to expirement with different musical genres and techniques. Band on the Run seems like an amalgamation of threee completely different songs each with its own charm, live and Let dies shows the inclusion of an orchestra and Mull of Kintyre to use of bagpipes in both cases to great effect. And Uncle Albert well, you'll just have to listen to that one. Continuing with such high quality hits... Read review
