Advantages: Excellent Movie Sountrack. Disadvantages: None!
REASONS FOR PURCHASING:
St Elmo?s' Fire is one of my all time favourite movies that I really had great pleasure in watching in 1986. I really was thrilled when I first saw this excellent, star studded movie and was highly impressed with the soundtrack and all of the great songs that where played throughout it. I purchased this soundtrack a few years later after watching St Elmo's Fire, as I really thought all the songs chosen for the movie really helped it to be the big success it was. The Theme tune to St Elmo?s Fire was an excellent choice by producer David Foster. It is called "Man In Motion" and was performed by John Parr. The theme tune to St Elmo's Fire is played in little stages, instrumentally in this movie and it gradually builds up to an excellent song that?s performed by "The Great" John Parr near the end of the final ...
Advantages: Good soundtrack Disadvantages: Poor adaptation of a good book
the first error. It does not work.
Normally I am a fan of John Cusack, but I just cannot understand why he took on this role, as all throughout the film he looked mildly embarassed, and he chats to the camera become more annoying with each instance. As co-producer he is not much more successful.
My top 5 reasons for hating this film are:
1. It is the weakest adaption of a Nick Hornby novel to date.
2. John Cusack is not convincing in the role of Rob.
3. Tim Robbins is laughable in the role of Ian the lothario.
4. Chicago is not London!!!
5. Jack Black did not have enough of a starring role.
I have to say that there is one redeeming feature of the film along with Jack Black, and that is the soundtrack. It includes some brilliant songs such as 'A Town Called Malice' by The Jam.

I just came back from seeing HighFidelity. I've not read the book but, I'm already a fan of Cusack, and I thought he was great in this. This was kinda important seeing as he must have been in shot throughout the film.
Although it sounds boring, it's basically about Cusack contemplating his life and his failed relationships. But he manages to be charming, full of believable wit and insight (well obviously i have been thinking about these things as much as he has).
if your into non-pop music and into feeling smug then you'll love this. You'll be filled with glee when you recognise the 'rare' songs. But even if your not, the soundtrack is great, and as I find with all movies, is a good waying of finding new music you wouldn't normally listen to.

HIGH FIDELITY was nominated for the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Compilation Soundtrack Album for a Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media. The film adaptation of Nick Hornby's cult novel relocates its independent record store setting from London to Chicago, but the HIGH FIDELITY soundtrack thankfully retains the book's eclectic spirit. Though many of the featured artists tend to get caught up in the classic-rock meat grinder, the compilers at least demonstrate great sense by bypassing obvious choices. So, instead of "Like a Rolling Stone," we find OH MERCY's terrific "Most of the Time" filling the obligatory Dylan spot. And, for once, the jittery British Invasion nugget "Everybody's Gonna Be Happy" represents the Kinks-not "You Really Got Me." The soundtrack's lineup also includes a pair from the Velvets ("Oh Sweet Nuthin" and "Who Loves the Sun"), garage-rock icons Thirteenth Floor Elevators ("You're Gonna Miss Me"), and cutting-edge newcomers such as The Beta Band ("Dry the Rain"). There's even a surprisingly soulful cover of "Let's Get it on," done by Jack Black-half of HBO's Spinal Tap-like Tenacious D duo. HIGH FIDELITY is an unusual soundtrack, closer in spirit to a clever mix tape made by that old college roommate whose two lovers were his hi-fi and his bong.
