If you haven't heard of High School Musical by now, then where have you been?! The disney channel made-for-television film is one of the most successful original disney channel films ever. The soundtrack was also one of the most successful albums in 2006. Following on from this success, the sequel High School Musical 2 will premiere on the Disney Channel this summer.
The film itself is about two high school students, Troy, who is captain of the basketball team(Played by Zac Efron) and Gabriella who is a shy student who is brilliant at Maths and science(Played by Vanessa Anne Hudgens), they discover that they can both sing and decide to audition for the lead roles in their high school musical. Along the way they inspire other students to share their secrets about other things they are good at.
The film first premiered in the UK in December 2006 and my sister bought the soundtrack soon afterwards, I have to admit that I have listened to it as well as the songs are just so catchy!
Start Of Something New - This is the first song in the film, it is when Troy and Gabriella first meet and they forced to sing karaoke together. Although Zac Efron plays the part of Troy, his vocals were provided by an older boy for the soundtrack. However, apparently Zac will be singing on the entire High School Musical 2 soundtrack. This is a really great song, at first it starts off quite slow but then the pace gets faster during the chorus, 'It's the start of something new, it feels so right to be here with you', the song represents the beginning of a new relationship.
Get'cha Head In The Game - This is probably my least favourite of all the songs on the soundtrack. It is Troy who sings this song with the basketball team, it's about him trying to focus on the game and not on the singing and trying to get a part in the musical...but he finds that this is hard to do, 'My head's in the game but my heart's in the song'.
What I've Been Looking For - This song is sang by the rivals, Ryan (Played by Lucas Grabeel) and Sharpay (Played by Ashley Tisdale). This is their audition song for the musical. It's a really fun song and is really catchy. Lucas has quite a strong voice and so does Ashley, although she has quite a high pitched squeaky voice which might get annoying after a while!
What I've Been Looking For (Reprise - This time it is Troy and Gabriella's audition. They sing the song in a much slower pace, and it still sounds really great. This version of the song is quite short, I would have liked to hear a longer version of it.
Stick To The Status Quo - This is definitely one of the best songs in the film. The song takes place in the dining hall with all cast members involved in it. During the song, several students reveal secrets about other things they are good at...however the majority of students say that you should just stick to what you know already as it's not cool to do otherwise, 'No No No, stick to the stuff you know, if you wanna be cool, follow one simple rule, don't mess with the flow, no , no...stick to the status quo'.
When There Was Me And You - This is the only solo number in the soundtrack and it's sang by Gabriella. Its a ballad and is sang after she hears Troy saying that the callbacks and Gabriella mean nothing to him. She starts to lose faith and realises that her dream isn't going to come true, 'I know you're not a fairytale and dreams are meant for sleeping, and wishes on a star just don't come true'. Vanessa really gets the chance to show off her strong voice on this track.
Bop To The Top - This is Ryan and Sharpay's callback song, it's such a fun song! It has a very spanish feel to it with the guitar in the background. The lyrics are also so funny, 'Zip zap zop, pop like a mop'
Breaking Free - Even if you haven't seen the film, chances are you will have heard this song. It's like the anthem of High School Musical. It's Troy and Gabriella's callback song, at first you think the song is going to be a ballad, but the song has a killer chorus that everyone knows, 'We're soaring, flying, theres not a star in heaven that we can't reach...if we're trying, yeah we're breaking free'. The song is about them wanting to break free from their stereotypical roles and how when they work together they give each other the strength to believe. It's probably the best song in the film!
We're All In This Together - This is the last song in the film, it is sang by the entire cast in the gym, it represents that everyone is together and they can do what they like, 'We're all in this together and it shows when we stand hand in hand, make our dreams come true'. This song stands out on the soundtrack and it's a good song to round the film off with.
I Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You - This song doesn't feature in the actual film, but it does in the credits. The main characters all have solo parts in the song. Again this is a very catchy song although not as strong as the others so I can see why it wasn't included in the film.
Get'cha Head In The Game (Performed by B5) - This is the same song as before although it's sang by B5. It's slightly different, there is a rap in it half way through.
Finally the soundtrack finished with two karaoke instrumentals of Start Of Something New and Breaking Free, all the lyrics are provided in the album booklet, so why not give it a go?!
I really love the songs from this film, they may be cheesy but it is a musical after all! They're a lot of fun and you'll soon be humming all the tunes! I'm sure the film and it's soundtrack will be a classic in the years to come. Bring on High School Musical 2!

...the past though. High School Musical is the newest original musical from the Disney channel. It tells the story of Gabriella, the new brain box in school, and Troy, the captain of the basketball team, go against all social rules and audition in the High School Musical. Of course, true to Disney, they fall in love along the way. Between them they make school history - the first time there has been call-backs for the lead couple! They're going to have ... ...this. After hearing her in High School Musical I did go and download her solo album 'V' (but haven't gotten around to listening to it yet!) Zac Efron
While Zac is the leading male in High School Musical, he doesn't really give any outstanding performances by himself, and Vanessa always accompanies his most notable performances. He's not much of an actor either, I think he pretty much plays himself, and does that badly!

...hurry so handed me the High School Musical Soundtrack CD, DVD, book of lyrics and a playscript and told me the children "HAD TO PRACTICE". Pretending that I knew everything about 'High School Musical' I needed quick info on the film before the kids entered the classroom.
I contacted my little sister in a flustered state knowing that she had watched this many times and sat ready for a 'crash course' on this film. On first impressions I thought it ... ...a story behind them.
High School Musical can be liked to Grease in many ways. Troy Bolton (Zak Efron) and Gabriella (Vanessa Hudgens) meet at a New Years Eve Party whilst on Christmas vacation. They fall in love after singing 'Start of Something New', unknown that they will soon be at school together.

The high school musical cd features all the songs from the movie.
1) Start of something New - This is a good introduction to the movie.Performed by Vanessa Hugens (Gabriela) and Zac Efron (Troy).
Introduces them into how much they like to sing.
2)Get'cha head in the game - performed by Zac.It is a catchy song.Fast with some 'basket-ball playing' sounds.Not my favourite song though.
3)What I've been looking for - performed by Ashley Tisdale (Sharpay) ... ...- performed by the whol high school musical cast! There's a message in this song saying everyone is equal! It's a feel good song!
10)I can't take my eyes off you - performed by Troy and Gabriela , and Sharpay and Ryan. Shows how Troy and Gabriela have fallen for each other! It's a sweet song! catchy too!
11)Getch'a head in the game! It's a different version of the getcha head in the game sang by troy!

Advantages: Catchy and funny songs to brighten up your day/night! Disadvantages: Hardly the 'coolest' songs to have blareing in your car
...from its massive screen success, High School Musical the OST offers the listener the opportunity to join in and sing along with their favourite characters such as Troy, Gabriella, Sharpay and Ryan.
The OST goes through the ups and downs that happen during the movie, like 'Start of Something New' when Troy and Gabriella first meet at New Year!
I find that no matter how young or old you are, these songs are bound to get you singing along (provided ... ...smile on your face.
Disney have yet again managed to find another gear in producing this form of entertainment which I find is primarily aimed at the younger age groups but for myself being late teens; I can't help but like it! I have also heard many other friends and adults listening too.
But while these songs will not be top requests in the hottest nightclubs around, they will certainly be listened to when your in the sing-song and happy mood!

The school has and audition for a school musical, but Sharpay (Ashley Tisdale) and brother Ryan (Lucas Grabeel) Evans are the stars of the show they always audition with a well coriagraphed dance and sing routine that is over the top for an auditions. Gabriella wants to audition for the musical, but no-body would sing with her until the Troy ... ...in promotions, commercials, etc. High School Musical is presented in fullscreen as it was shown on television. Special features include two music videos, located under the "Music and more" option on bonus features menu. "I can't take my eyes off of you" is listed as never viewed before and has the main cast performing the track in a studio. ...If you enjoyed the film you'll love the CD. If you haven't seen the film and you're age 5 to 14 you'll probably still love it. It has all the main songs from the film, including both versions of You are the Music in Me by Troy & Gariella and Sharpay. The bonus track is weird but the 10 other songs justified the cost of the CD without worring about the bonus track. Very popular with all the girls at my daughters' primary school but unsure if it is as popular with older children. Despite that i have to admit that it is also very popular with their forty-two year old mother! An ideal Christmas present or stocking filler if they haven't got it already....

...The highschoolmusical 2 soundtrack is good not excellent i would say. it is perfect for those who like pop music.

the album includes the humu humu song which isnt in the film but the name is mentioned its an ok song but i can see why they didnt put it in the film .
My personal veiw.
i rate this album(soundtrack)good because there are the odd songs that gets on my nerves and thats you are the music in me by sharpay and i dont dance by chad and ryan. my favourite songs are work this out by the cast gotta go my own way by gabriella and troy you are the music in me by gabriella troy and kelsie(first line) everyday by the cast and mainly gabriella and troy.
i recommend this product to
youngsters around the age of 6 - 13 and also check out the film to if you like the soundtrack....
