Advantages: Excellent Movie Sountrack. Disadvantages: None!
REASONS FOR PURCHASING:
St Elmo?s' Fire is one of my all time favourite movies that I really had great pleasure in watching in 1986. I really was thrilled when I first saw this excellent, star studded movie and was highly impressed with the soundtrack and all of the great songs that where played throughout it. I purchased this soundtrack a few years later after watching St Elmo's Fire, as I really thought all the songs chosen for the movie really helped it to be the big success it was. The Theme tune to St Elmo?s Fire was an excellent choice by producer David Foster. It is called "Man In Motion" and was performed by John Parr. The theme tune to St Elmo's Fire is played in little stages, instrumentally in this movie and it gradually builds up to an excellent song that?s performed by "The Great" John Parr near the end of the final ...
Advantages: A good happy musical, a family film, funny. Disadvantages: maybe slightlty dated, but still fun
~~ HighSociety~~
I have although, slowly been going through my collection of musicals, they needed an airing, some are still unopened. I am a bit naughty I buy these movies with the intentions of sitting down to watch them, but life takes over and the moment has gone, they end up being filed to watch one day.
So my film for this month is HighSociety, which is a comedy musical that opened at the Pantages Theatre, Hollywood on 1st August 1956. The film boasted nominations for Best Song and Best score at the 1956 Oscars.
HighSociety was the musical version of Philip Barry's comedy play The Philadelphia Story, which was in its day one of MGM's greatest comedies and starred Hollywood greats Katherine Hepburn, Cary Grant and James Stewart. Grace Kelly with her air of haughtiness was a perfect choice to play the part of debutant ...

Advantages: The characters, the music and the script Disadvantages: None
HighSociety needs to be seen even if its just for the timeless 'what a swell party' scene with the legends that are Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby. It is not often these two greats sing together "we sing so rare."
The great characters are my favourite element of the film, the music comes second and the script which includes some great lines comes third, for instance "shut up you fool" (Louis Calhern with a hangover talking to a bird singing in a tree.)
Highsociety is by far my favourite musical as I watched it over and over again as a kid showing that it is pure family entertainment. From Sinatra's singing to Grace Kelly's elegance and back to Bing Crosby's one-liners it is a must see for all. ...

Q (8/95, p.142) - 5 Stars (out of 5) - "...a one-way ticket to Cole Porter city and no stops in between. This record will make people marry you, will keep you whistling through any armed conflict, and appears to contain all the tunes they do not write any more."
