1967 was the era of mystical perfection Floyd released a barrad of beutiful songs including 'See Emily play','Remember a day' and 'Paintbox' before finalising their debut which would mark the peak of the 60's just grew taller,the moment Barrett released this album he stuck a Pink Floyd flag ontop of mount Everest, because their success would escalate into the heavens.The distinct elegance that their debut was devised could only result in awe and marvell.

This is another weak link, and one where I tend to hit the skip button. It has a soft rock feel to it, it’s rather toneless, kind of “samey” and the lyrics are quite meaningless in comparison to some of the other tracks on this album. 3/10.
LAST BOAT TO AMERICA 4:50

The percussion here has a slight oriental feel to me. It’s another track where the music is muted and subtle and enables the full talent of David Gray’s vocal’s to become very evident. The lyrics are about love (the common theme of the album) and about deep love where you hold nothing back and go “all the way”. 8/10.

Advantages: Best example of psychedelic available Disadvantages: Too weird for a lot of people, and unlike Floyd's other albums
...Syd Barrett is a strange case of an outstanding songwriter being most known for his band work rather than his solo career. Sure, The Madcap Laughs and Barrett are both excellent records, but neither captures Barrett's complete insane genius in the same way Piper at the Gates of Dawn, his only full Floyd album does. After this he would go on to help record a couple of songs for the band's second album, A Saucerful of Secrets, but they were quite minor contributions. So here lies Syd's single masterpiece. It's a good job it *is* a masterpiece.
