Oceania - Oceania
Cross-cultural musical fusion is a decidedly mixed blessing: for every genuinely original

Initially Desired Constellation was a favourite but now the rumbling Submarine and the swinging Mouth's Cradle are songs I cant resist. I have to admit that on the first listen Oceania annoyed me but now I enjoy it - it sounds exactly like the sea on a windy day.
In fact I like all of the songs. This CD is an example of a perfectly put together album, I wish it was longer but know it cant be any other way.
Dont be afraid of this CD, it is experiemental but I dont think it is hard going really; there's rhythm, melody and great lyrics here to be enjoyed by anyone who has an open mind....

Advantages: Awesome recording with perfect blend of songs and flawless result Disadvantages: Couple of tracks that are difficult to get used to
...lyrics such as "Here we go again to stage the greatest show on heaven and on earth," suggesting that Bush is showing off to the world, his lies and charades are all too much for this band. Political controversy from beginning to an end with literature references: "Yeah you deserve two minutes hate," they have obviously been reading George Orwell's 'Nineteen Eighty Four' (the controlled society of Oceania is instructed to release all their pent up anger in a two minute frenzy of hate they have for an enemy state, all fuelled by propaganda). The song ends with a nice little bit of guitar work from Gurewitz as the song fades to silence.

Advantages: Visionary sounds, great vocals Disadvantages: Some of the tracks are a bit too 'far out'
...any more.
Highlights (the few), were 'Who Is It', an up tempo catchy number which reminded me of Bjork earlier days and 'Oceania' - with amazing layered vocals. The others really aren't worth a mention.
If like me, you are considering buying this CD after seeing the TV advert - don't bother. The tv ad is cleverly edited to sound like an up-tempo dance inspired CD - which it definetely IS NOT.
AVOID!!! (I wish I had)....
