Advantages: wide variety of related courses, can learn Russian from scratch Disadvantages: none
I studied BA Russian and Soviet Studies at Portsmouth University from 1988 to 1990. Unfortunately, I did not complete the four year course, due to getting married and then having a baby a year later.
The course was the reason I chose to go to Portsmouth, moving 210 miles from my home in Lincoln. I have been interested in the USSR and the Russian language since following the successes of the Soviet team (especially the gymnasts) at the 1980 Moscow Olympics.
I became fascinated with the Cyrillic alphabet and wanted to learn the language. I had an opportunity to do this with a short night school course as a teenager, which whetted my appetite to study it further.
One of the advantages of the course at Portsmouth was that you could learn the language ab initio. The other parts of the course sounded fascinating too, as it included ...

Advantages: Strong debut album, well chained together songs Disadvantages: Ends too abruptly, for some it may take some getting used to
Russian Circles are a three piece, post rock band from Chicago. And this is their debut album 'Enter' a mixture of melodic melodies and heavy riffs.
Now, even though the whole album clocks up to only six songs, you're still getting your money's worth from this album, clocking up to just over 44 min of instrumental bliss. Plus, I'll describe every single track seeing as there is only six of them.
Carpe: Begins slowly with a steady 4 note guitar pluck, but builds up to a heavy guitar thrashing only to pull you back and forward with the volume level and speed.
Micah: More subtle but at the same keeps you on the edge; this track concentrates more on the impressive guitar picking work, with the drums and bass interfering now and again for showing off purposes.
Death Rides A Horse: Starts hard and fast and continues that way all ...
Advantages: Better than some of the other productions in the set Disadvantages: Not long enough and old footage used to fill gaps
Being a chelsea fan i always think im going to see Roman Abromovich in the background on one of these documentaries doing a dodgy deal. No luck as yet!
45 minutes is not enough to go through what the Russian Mafia have at their disposal. They seem to be growing and the threat is highlighted here. Its rated as the most powerful crime syndicate since the cosa nostra with a vast network of criminal activity throughout the world. Theyve also got an alarming amount of military hardware leftover from the cold war which can be used by the head, Vyacheslav Ivankov.
This dvd is one of the better ones in the set but still of basic layout and content. The interviews are better though with better questions and interviewees giving the viewer what they want to hear, the truth.
Footage is dated and reconostruction is used to fill the gaps ...
