past to a dodgy present and--given it's commercial and artistic performance--cast a shadow on his future. Conceived as his formal coronation as the "King of Pop," HIStory's second disc instead presents Jackson as an epauletted, single-gloved Richard III. By turns paranoid, angry, bitter, sentimental, and, in one instance, possibly anti-Semitic, HIStory was less a collection of songs than a case history. A few tracks--mostly those produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis--are sleek, modern pop/soul, but too much of HIStory has the overblown vacuousness of a musician who knows his time is past, but is unsure as to how to react to the situation. --Steven Mirkin

Advantages: Timeless classics from albums such as 'Thriller', 'Bad' and 'Dangerous'. Disadvantages: Is a double CD enough for Michael Jackson's Greatest Hits?
...outlined below:
History Begins - Disc I
I will describe all of the songs on the first CD because I feel they are the most well known Michael Jackson songs that people would like to hear about.
1 - Billie Jean - One of the most famous Michael Jackson songs of all time, appeared on the album 'Thriller'. This is my favourite song because of the unique background music and lyrics to get you up and into a ... ...- *****
History Continues - Disc II
1 - Scream - Featuring a vocal duet with Michael's Sister Janet Jackson, written and composed by James Harris III, Terry Lewis, Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson, produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis.

2 - They Don't Care About Us - written, composed and produced by Michael Jackson.
During my childhood, Michael Jackson was in his prime, with hits like Thiller, Bad and Billie Jean topping the charts from multi-million pound selling albums such as 'Bad' and 'Thriller'. A long awaited 'greatest hits' album was then produced in the late 90's, comprising of a double CD of 'Past, Present and Future' hits.
'History, Past, Present and Future - Book I' is a must have for all Michael Jackson fans and it is a snip at £10.99 in most music stores. It is not to be confused with 'History Volume 1' (around £8.99), which is merely a single CD of Michael Jackson's greatest hits. This double CD album contains a CD of all the hits on the 'History Volume 1' album, plus an extra CD comprising of his later hits at the time, which included future releases such as 'Stranger in Moscow'. The CD also contains a booklet with a biography of Michael Jackson and the lyrics to most of the songs on the 2nd CD.
With the vast amount of Michael Jackson hits that have been a prominent part of music for over 25 years, it makes you wonder how this album is only a double CD. He could very well fill a CD compilation twice that size.
Although some people deny that they like a song or two of Michael Jackson's, you just know that they have a CD or two hidden amongst their collection.
In my opinion, the first CD is the best of the two, as it contains most of Michael's classics, which I have outlined below:
History Begins - Disc I
I will describe all of the songs on the first CD because I feel they are the most well known Michael Jackson songs that people would like to hear about.
1 - Billie Jean - One of the most famous Michael Jackson songs of all time, appeared on the album 'Thriller'. This is my favourite song because of the unique background music and lyrics to get you up and into a dancing mood. It is all about a one night stand with the girl claiming to be having a son from Michael, but he's not having any of it! ("Bilie Jean is not my lover!" "The kid is not my son!") Written and composed by Michael Jackson, produced by Quincy Jones.
Song Rating - *****
2 - The Way You Make Me Feel - What I like about this tune is the drum beat in the background, the song reminds you of walking down the street with no worries in the world, although it is actually about winning over a girl's love. Taken from the album 'Bad', written and composed by Michael Jackson, produced by Quincy Jones.
Song Rating - *****
3 - Black Or White - The one where Michael dances on the Statue of Liberty in the video and features Macaulay Culkin. This song is indifferent to me but I do like the beginning of the video. Taken from the album 'Dangerous', written, composed and produced by Michael Jackson.
Song Rating - ***
4 - Rock With You - What I like about this song is the retro sytle 70's feel to it that made it a classic, One of Michael's earlier hits that appeared on the album 'Off The Wall', written and composed by Rod Temperton, produced by Quincy Jones.
Song Rating - ****
5 - She's Out of My Life - This is one of Michael Jacksons's slowest songs, which is about losing a girl. Michael reflects on the times that were, and what went wrong. Taken from the album 'Off The Wall', written and composed by Tom Bahler, produced by Qunicy Jones.
Song Rating - **
6 - Bad - I don't know a word that can describe the backing music on this one, but the beat builds a foundation for the entire song (it gets you tapping your fingers on the table). It Featuring 80's gang members on the video, this is one of Michael Jackson's most famous songs, taken from the same titled album 'Bad', written and composed by Michael Jackson, produced by Quincy Jones.
Song Rating - ****
7 - I Just Can't Stop Loving You - This song starts slow and builds up to a faster song. The lyrics are about expressing your feelings for a girl (if you can't be with this person, life isn't worth living). Again, this is taken from the album 'Bad', written and composed by Michael Jackson, produced by Qunicy Jones.
Song Rating - *****
8 - Man In The Mirror - You can only appreciate this song by carefully listening to the lyrics, which is about making the world a better place by taking a look at yourself ("the man in the mirror") and making a change for others. Another classic from 'Bad', written and composed by Michael Jackson, produced by Quincy Jones.
Song Rating - *****
9 - Thriller - This song is about a thriller night where the dead come to life and your fighting for your life. The greatest and most famous Michael Jackson song of all time, record selling hit featuring dancing zombies from the album 'Thriller', written and composed by Michael Jackson, produced by Quincy Jones.
Song Rating - *****
10 - Beat It - The guitar backing in this song is second to none. The song is about staying to fight it and not running away. You get out there and fight. Michael Jackson's first rock song that become part of a successful 'Thriller' album, written and composed by Michael Jackson, produced by Quincy Jones.
Song Rating - *****
11 - The Girl Is Mine - Michael Jackson argues who a girl belongs to("the girl is mine, no she's mine"). Featuring a vocal duet with Paul McCartney from the album 'Thriller', written and composed by Michael Jackson, produced by Quincy Jones.
Song Rating - ***
12 - Remember The Time - This song is about past memories of falling in love with a girl ("do you remember, when we fell in love"). From the album 'Dangerous', written and composed by Teddy Riley, produced by Teddy Riley and Michael Jackson.
Song Rating - ***
13 - Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough - This song is about taking love through the hours ("dont stop til you get enough"). This song has that late 70's, early 80's sound to it, very much dance pop. Taken from the album 'Off The Wall', written and composed by Michael Jackson, produced by Quincy Jones.
Song Rating - *****
14 - Wanna Be Startin' Somethin' - Yet again this song has some excllent backing music, I believe the song is about people telling lies ("You got to be startin' somethin'"). Another classic from the album 'Thriller', written and composed by Michael Jackson, produced by Quincy Jones.
Song Rating - *****
15 - Heal The World - This song has a similar meaning to that of 'man in the mirror', we should make the world a better place and care for the living ("Make a better place for you and for me and the entire human race"). Also taken from the album 'Dangerous', written, composed and produced by Michael Jackson.

My favourite Michael Jackson song of all time has to be 'Billie Jean'. The lyrics and guitar backing of song is excellent. I'd love to hear what your favourite Michael Jackson song of all time is....
Compared to other gratest hits albums on sale, this is probably the best value for money. No CD collection is complete without it. You can't really compare this album to other Michael Jackson albums because it is simply a greatest hits album. 'Thriller' will always be Michael Jackson's greatest ever album achievement for both record sales and unique music.
Lets face it, Michael Jackson has had his fair share of stick and media attention, but he never fails to produce outstanding music. He is considered a music legend and a unique celebrity. He was the foundation for black music videos and a true 'pop idol'. You only have to listen to this album to see why he has been labeled 'the king of pop'.
There's one question though; "Where is 'Smooth Criminal"?

Review of History Past Present And Future Vol.1 - Michael Jackson
Advantages: Many classic songs Disadvantages: Double album rather than two separte releases
Michael’s famous doubt album from 1994 is certainly a lavish affair, but this also means that it certainly isn’t easy on the pocket, retailing at around 25 pounds. The first disk is a ‘Best Of’ featuring 15 tracks spanning all his solo album, and all the material will be familiar to fans, who’ll also own all the tracks on at least one other release.
The second album features 15 new tracks, including a duet with his ... ...well with the earlier material, but there some tracks that shows a serious lack of ‘quality control’ such as the very average ‘Tabloid Junkie’. The decision to release this as a double album is rather strange. It fails as a ‘Best Of’ due to forced purchase of a new album, just as it fails as a new album due to the forced purchase of the ‘Best Of’. It seems like a sly ploy to force fans that will own ...

...best.
I have the History album and this is enduring, there are some wonderful tracks on it, from Thriller to Earth Song. When I was younger he was doing well with his music, and now that I am older I still find like his songs. I’m glad he’s different, people make digs at him, but they are just simply jealous. He has all that money and so what if he spends it on himself.
Can you please clarify for me whether he has a new album out or ...

Michael Jackson’s album History, is a two CD collection, on the first CD are all his old hits which combined are his greatest. Songs like Billie Jean and Man In The Mirror prove that Michael Jackson is true talent with songs that have lasted the test of time. No wonder thriller sold so many albums and a few of those songs are documented on this CD. CD2 are songs he has written now, we have the number ones “You are not alone” and “Earth song” which ...

Advantages: Huge Selection, Good Value, Great Music Disadvantages: N/A
This truely is one of the greatest albums from one of the greatest idols in music history. For me Michael Jackson is still head and shoulders above the rest when it comes to music, especially pop. Even if you aren't his biggest fan there is sure to be a track that you'll enjoy or that will warm your heart from this double disc set. This was Michael Jackson's fifth solo album released in 1995. It contains 15 new songs and 15 of his greatest hits.

This is one of the greatest albums of all time, on the first CD Jackson includes his greatest hits and on the second CD he includes all brand new material. Songs like Thriller and Billie Jean are just the greatest pop and rock songs that exist today. The new material is excellent. Earth song is one of Jackson's greatest songs and the words are so thought provoking, it is about how the human race is destroying the planet and what future will our children ...

Brown, Richard Heath (percussion); Christa Larson, Julia Waters, Maxine Waters, Oren Waters (background vocals). Producers include: Quincy Jones, Michael Jackson, Teddy Riley, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, Janet Jackson. HISTORY BOOK 1 contains one disc of Jackson's greatest hits and one disc of all-new songs. It features a 52-page booklet with liner notes by Janet Jackson, Steven Spielberg, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and Elizabeth Taylor, as well as many never-before-seen photographs. HISTORY BOOK 1 was nominated for a 1996 Grammy Award for Album Of The Year. "You Are Not Alone" was nominated for Grammy Awards for Song Of The Year and Best Male Pop Vocal Performance, and the Michael Jackson-Janet Jackson duet "Scream" was nominated for Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals. Michael Jackson's monumental collection HISTORY BOOK 1 seeks to make two points. The first disc--chock full of hits spanning Jackson's Epic Records solo career--tries to establish how the so-called King of Pop earned that nickname in the first place; the second disc, featuring fifteen new, star-studded tracks, makes a case for him holding onto that royal moniker well into the next century. And though many may dismiss both directives as the product of Jackson camp hype, once the music begins it's hard to deny him any title he wishes to bestow upon himself. All of the songs on HISTORY's first disc have already been ingrained in the minds of the radio-listening, MTV-watching public. From the funky disco of 1979's "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough," through the countless and diverse THRILLER hits ("Billie Jean," "The Girl Is Mine," etc.), to the anthemic peace-in-our-time ballad "Heal The World," Jackson's star-power-fueled singles invested the mainstream with black pop's soulfulness to the point where black pop became the mainstream. And Jackson, subsequently, became pop's king. On the second disc, Jackson tries to retain a hold over his current empire while moving toward a more street-wise, hip-hop-tinged pop. "Scream," a duet with sister Janet, is prototypical. The beats are cold and stone-hard, and effuse grey noise electric discharges. Yet after multiple listens the song's simple chorus and minimalist melody imbed themselves in the cranium. Same goes for the mildly controversial "They Don't Care About Us," where Jackson near-raps a stream of nonsequiturs, amidst various urban-life samples, over a busy hip-hop beat. In fact, considering hip-hop's deep influence on HISTORY's new tracks, it seems the King has seen the future of his kingdom and has begun to act accordingly.
Album Reviews
Rolling Stone (8/10/95, pp.55-58) - 3.5 Stars - Good - "...HISTORY's ultimate goal is to position Michael Jackson's music as a planet, a genre, a law....As time passes and singles break, maybe those superhuman plans will touch back down on earth." Musician (9/95, pp.86-87) - "...incorporates tougher musical textures and deliberately `blacker' vocal inflections....more open about expressing negative emotions....also more pointed about political and racial issues, moving from...safe genralities...to more controversial stances..." Q (8/95, p.120) - 3 Stars - Good - "...HISTORY is basically an appeal on behalf of the rich and famous....the metallic clatter of jackhammer rhythms and Michael's own complaints remain this record's defining features..."
