i never really liked pulp, i didn't dislike them, but couldn't really call myself a fan, the only song i knew was "Common People" which came on the radio on the way home from work one day, me and my friend sang along and i realised what a great song it was so the next day i bought "hits," just for common people. After playing that song to death i listened to the rest of the album and decided, one by one, that the tracks were all as good, if not better than "common people." "Disco 2000" soon became my new favourite pulp song for it's catchyness, then razzmatazz for it's happy sound etc.
the tracks are: 1. Babies 2. Razzmatazz 3. Lipgloss 4. Do You Remember The First Time? 5. Common People 6. Underwear 7. Sorted For E's And Wizz 8. Disco 2000 9. Something Changed 10. Help The Aged 11. This Is Hardcore 12. A Little Soul 13. Party Hard 14. Trees 15. Bad Cover Version 16. Sunrise 17. Last Day Of The Miners' Strike (new song)
Although this album was good for me, i can see existing Pulp fans, who have most or all of their albums, getting annoyed with them for releasing an album with only one new song on it. But for people who don't own any Pulp albums as yet, it's a goodway to identify which of their albums you would like most as the tracks are in chronological order, although unfortunately it doesn't have any tracks from the first 3 albums (before anyone knew who they were) and it would be nice, even if it was just one. it's an album you can listen to anywhere and no-one will complain about it, everyone knows a few songs by Pulp and everyone listens to them at some point, whether it's dancing to silly songs on the pub jukebox or sitting down and listening to them regularly. i've had so much enjoyment it's one of those albums that you can listen to in any situation, it's good to drive to, good to listen to at work. some of the lyrics are quite funny, some people may find them a bit disgusting, "the trouble with your brother, he's always sleeping with your mother," but lyrics like that weren't meant to be offensive or even serious, some songs reequire you to listen with them with your tongue firmly in cheek and if you do, i'm sure you'll enjoy it as much as i have. as with all greatest hits albums i'm going to rate it's originality fairly low because most tracks have been released before, don't let this put you of buying it. the inlay has the lyrics to the songs and a lot of writing about i'm not even sure what by Harland Miller, it would have been nice if there was more pictures of the band in there.
Advantages: The best band ever Disadvantages: You'll want to dance to Common People
Well...this is the CD that started it all, or should I say continued it?
I remember as a wee child, sat in my car, listening to "Disco 2000" on the radio. Such good times. It was a song, that even as a mindless child, said to me "This is how music should sound".
So, late summer '06 sometime, I saw the Video to that memory stirring song on something like "Q", or "The Vault" on sky, and my heart literally stopped. A couple of weeks later, I saw the ... ...mind to go straight to Virgin Megastores and pick up my copy of some form of Pulp's Greatest Hits, and so came across "Hits".
It shows how Pulp changed and differed through their time at large, from the early 90's to the early 00's. Songs like "Babies", "Razzmataz", and "Lipgloss" all ooze with dark, perverted, but none the less incredibly witty innuendo, about spying on your friend's sister, incest, and sleeping around. Its the kind of stuff that ...

Advantages: music is brilliant. if you like music you should like Pulp.... Disadvantages: non
Pulp were a band that spanned 20 years. 10 of those years were wasted on failure. Despit the albums being brilliant.
In the 90s they came to fame!
This compilation is of every Pulp single of there successfull period and includes a bunus track: "Last Day Of The Minors Strike".
The odvious songs are there. The "His N Hers" stuff. All of the "Different Class, "Hardcore" and "We Love Life" singles.
The abum art is funky and there is a choice to select ...

Advantages: It's got all songs that a non- pulp fan would need Disadvantages: It's missing nearlly every good track they've done
Pulp, the best band in the world if you ask me. They've influnced so many people and bands over the past 20 years that they should receive an award. Cocker is the best front man this country has seen in years and even thogh Pulp are now disbanded, he still lives strong in the world of music.
Hit's does exactly what it says on the tin- a collection of all their hits. Hit's includes some of the earlier works that were never on any of the bigger pulp ...

Advantages: Most of Pulp's Singles on ONE CD Disadvantages: One single missing, which is a shame.
...bands finally realeased a greatest hits album and nobody noticed.
Only reaching number Seventy One in the charts.
This cd has fiftteen classic singles, one B-side and one new track.
As it seems this is Pulp's final album what better way for someone who has never bought a Pulp album than by buying this.
I highly recommend it.
You'll no doubt recognise songs such as:
Common People,
Disco 2000,
Help The Aged,
Do You Remember The First Time?

Advantages: A superb album Disadvantages: None really
...When Pulp had the string of hits a few years back including Disco 2000, and Common People, it took a while to talk myself into buying the album, Different Class. However, once bought I never looked back, as it is a true gem!
The album is slightly short with 12 tracks, and includes obviously the above 2 hits, and also Sorted For E's & Whizz, and Something Changed. But I've found that other unknown songs are actually as good if not better than the singles they released!
My favourtie song from the album is Underwear which has excellent lyrics and a superb melody which incorporates lots of emotion. Mis-Shapes is also another songs that I love and the way Jarvis brings the song from a low ebb upto a high and then slopes it back off for the finish is genius.
The album overall is one of pure genius, and it's a shame that more wasn...

Advantages: moving, insightful and beautiful songs. It's Captain Kirk Disadvantages: Not everyone's up of tea
...version of Mr Tamborine Man is legendary with Shatner literally screaming like a crazed maniac by the end. Not quite the version The Byrd's did.
Released in 2004, this CD got a surprising amount of critical acclaim but didn't really enter most people's radars. A pity as it truly is a one of a kind and has much to offer.
Produced by Ben Folds of the Ben Folds Five and featuring a dizzying array of other talent such as Joe Jackson, Adrian Belew, Henry Rollins and more, Has Been is a collection of thoughtful, inspiring and downright strange, often self-deprecating songs that firmly lay to rest the idea of Shatner being a bit stuck up his own fundement. I'm just sad he hasn't released anything since.
Tracks
A fairly sensible start with "Common People", a cover of the Pulphit from a few years back. Pretty much like the original except...

...After the dismal failure of her previous album Impossible Princess, it was vital that Kylie should take a step away from the music scene and come back with something that would initially restore some of her success. Light Years proved to be the album that got the ball rolling. Starting off with a hidden track called Password, the album starts out as it means to go on. Its well known with Kylie's fans that hidden tracks, b sides and unreleased material has proven to be some of her finest work, this song proves to be no different, with a great little beat going on that would be more evident on her current album Body Language. Then its time for the Kylie revival with her hit number one Spinning Around. There are some classic disco tracks that follow with musical references to Diana Ross, Pulp, Barry Manilow, among many others. In...
