"what's wrong? you know it takes more energy to frown than it does to smile?" yeah, you know it takes more energy to point that out than it does to leave me alone?

i never really liked pulp, i didn't dislike them, but couldn't really call myself a fan, the only song i knew was "Common People" which came on the radio on the way home from work one day, me and my friend sang along and i realised what a great song it was so the next day i bought "hits," just for common people. After playing that song to death i listened to the rest of the album and decided, one by one, that the tracks were all as good, if not better than "common people." "Disco 2000" soon became my new favourite pulp song for it's catchyness, then razzmatazz for it's happy sound etc.
the tracks are: 1. Babies 2. Razzmatazz 3. Lipgloss 4. Do You Remember The First Time? 5. Common People 6. Underwear 7. Sorted For E's And Wizz 8. Disco 2000 9. Something Changed 10. Help The Aged 11. This Is Hardcore 12. A Little Soul 13. Party Hard 14. Trees 15. Bad Cover Version 16. Sunrise 17. Last Day Of The Miners' Strike (new song)
Although this album was good for me, i can see existing Pulp fans, who have most or all of their albums, getting annoyed with them for releasing an album with only one new song on it. But for people who don't own any Pulp albums as yet, it's a goodway to identify which of their albums you would like most as the tracks are in chronological order, although unfortunately it doesn't have any tracks from the first 3 albums (before anyone knew who they were) and it would be nice, even if it was just one. it's an album you can listen to anywhere and no-one will complain about it, everyone knows a few songs by Pulp and everyone listens to them at some point, whether it's dancing to silly songs on the pub jukebox or sitting down and listening to them regularly. i've had so much enjoyment it's one of those albums that you can listen to in any situation, it's good to drive to, good to listen to at work. some of the lyrics are quite funny, some people may find them a bit disgusting, "the trouble with your brother, he's always sleeping with your mother," but lyrics like that weren't meant to be offensive or even serious, some songs reequire you to listen with them with your tongue firmly in cheek and if you do, i'm sure you'll enjoy it as much as i have. as with all greatest hits albums i'm going to rate it's originality fairly low because most tracks have been released before, don't let this put you of buying it. the inlay has the lyrics to the songs and a lot of writing about i'm not even sure what by Harland Miller, it would have been nice if there was more pictures of the band in there.

good review. a little bit of description about each of the tracks would have been interesting - like what it sounds like. if you update - let me know but a good review none the less. EM x
