sobriquet that neatly describes their approach toHoi Polloi, a whirlwind trip around a variety of traditional dance music from around the world played with an infectious sense of fun. The theme of the album--hence the title--is "music of the common people", which allows for considerable latitude in the band's selection of dance numbers. They happily resurrect Renaissance tunes from Praetorius and Playford with a devil-may-care approach to authenticity that probably makes the music sound more like it was originally conceived than any scholarly reconstruction. Elsewhere, they think nothing of adding a reggae lilt to a Macedonian folksong or, conversely, playing a bossanova on shawms and curtals. If this musical world tour around so many different styles seems a little disorientating at first, it's also refreshingly original. --Mark Walker

for tourists wanting hot weather but European food etc. Because it is cheap it has become a well established place on the backpacker trail, a bit like Thailand twenty years ago. In fact twenty years ago other Asian countries were like this and my hope is that Vietnam does not change and become another Hong Kong, Malaysia or Thailand - lovely though those places are they have changed a lot in the last twenty years and not all for the better.
Getting there:
By plane:The nearest airport is in Danang, which has flights to Hanoi, Saigon and some to Bangkok, Singapore and Siem Reap, Cambodia (for Angkor Wat). A taxi from the airport to Hoi An costs about £7 as they have a monopoly but it is far less for the return journey .
By train:There is no railway station in Hoi An and the nearest is in Danang, which has several trains a day from Hanoi, Saigon, Hue ...

Advantages: Entertainment, a great opporunity to see a few different places on one holiday Disadvantages: food limited at night, slow room service, small-ish ship
did thoroughly enjoy themselves and met lots of other kids to hang out with while on board. One evening there was a slumber party the kids could attend, a fee was charged for this though. There was also the opportunity for the kids to go on the daily excursions with their age-group, rather than with their parents.

As with, I guess, any vessel at sea, there is the possibility that you might see various forms of wildlife. On the last day on board the ship, and the last evening, we saw two single dolphins and what people said was a baby shark.
Seeing things like dolphins is going to be a luck-of-the-draw thing, whether you are in the right place, at the right time, and looking in the right direction, so it probably can't be fairly included in an evaluation of Carnival cruises, but I want to note it as the sightings were ...

Advantages: A Few Of Good Tracks Disadvantages: Nowhere Near The Same Degree Of Quality As Their Earlier Work
Much has been said of this record in terms of whether or not The Band really wanted to make it, most putting it down as simply a way of getting out of a contract with Capitol, so that The Last Waltz, their grand finale, could be released by Warner Brothers. Thus for most they would assume that this album did not get off to the best of starts and was doomed to linger at the back of their catalogue, and in a sense this is not to far from the truth as it is definitely not their best work, but it still contains a smattering of tracks that I am glad to own a piece of.
The album in truth is made up of a collection of B-sides and outtakes, with a couple of covers and a few new tracks, but this makes for an interesting listen, that far from being entirely cohesive is still a rewarding listen. Even though the lyrics and the instrumentation never ...
