**Introduction**
On a recent edition of classic Later with Jools Holland I was transfixed by the energy and vigour of BuddyGuy's performance of His awesome Damn Right I've got the blues from his 1991 album of the same name, I was already a fan of his music but didnt know all that much about his music. After a few minutes looking around on amazon I bought three of his cds, Skin Deep, Damn right I've got the blues and of course this one Bring Em In from 2005.
**Bring Em In**
Bring 'Em In features collaborations with various artists, the artists who feature are Carlos Santana (guitar), Tracy Chapman (vocals), John Mayer (guitar), Anthony Hamilton (vocals), Robert Randolph (pedal steel), and Keith Richards (guitar). Advantages: Great location, clean and tidy, helpful staff Disadvantages: Expensive for Thai prices, a little noisey at night depending on your room
all appeared clean and in good condition.
The cost
Don?t be shocked by the prices, the hotel isn?t cheap by Thailand standards. It?s not really one for backpackers unless it?s your first night off the plane and you?re looking for a little luxury to recover from your jet lag. It is quite luxurious in comparison to a lot of hotels in Bangkok. It?s a hotel I?d recommend to pretty much anyone, as it?s great for people travelling alone but also for families, whereas some hotels are aimed more at certain groups.
Standard Room costs -
Single/Double/Twin 2,000THB. per room per night
Deluxe Room costs
Single/Double/Twin 2,400THB. per room per night
Rooms at Buddy Lodge can booked online, over the telephone or through your travel agent. The times I have stayed I have booked online as you are usually able to get it ...
Advantages: Makes you realise just how cool Blues can be Disadvantages: The sound quality though not bad might put some people used to 'polish' off
hardly get a record deal. Blues was out of favour and so he accepted the offer, and Live At The Checkerboard Lounge was the result. The club, incidentally, BuddyGuy himself owned.
What's fascinating about Live At The Checkerboard Lounge is that unlike a lot of Blues albums where standards are wheeled out (not that I'm saying that this is a bad thing) most of the songs are Buddy's own compositions. And they're really raw blues, both traditional and modern yet never watered down as some can be. Perhaps this is because Guy's so on form. His vocals are impassioned and his guitar work exceptional. You feel here is Guy given the opportunity to let loose and bring his and Blues reputation back into favour. Whether he did or not, well, I'm inclined towards doubt but he does himself and the genre more than proud.
We open with Buddy ...
