Full review

I first got this album in August of last year after searching for it all over the high street.
I eventually managed to get it on Amazon for about Ten pounds.

I achully came across Pendulum completely by accident,as I loved a song called 'Tarantula' by D.J HYPE and after Google Videoing it,I discovered that Pendulum had also released it and I gave a few of their songs a listen.
I was especially taken by a song called 'Blood Sugar' and decided to get the album 'Hold your Colour'.
'Hold your Colour' is the debut album from Australian Drum n Bass set 'Pendulum',its achully a re-release and the album I have contains two different songs to the original album.

Each song is extremely different to the next and they average a running time of 5 minutes each, there are 14 tracks.
The cover features an eye, with bright coloured swirls around it,its very artistic and thoughtful, unlike alot of album covers that are thrown together.

Track 1: Prelude

This is basically an intro,it contains no d 'n' b,and is orchestral with a man talking over the music.
He says something along the lines of 'Somewhere out there in the vast nothingness of space, somewhere in space and time. Were marooned on a small island in an endless sea on a tiny speck of sand.
Somewhere on earth, for tonight were going to rock civilisation'

This is quite a dramatic intro,it lasts 54 seconds and makes you feel like this album is the beginning of a journey.
This is what Pendulum want you to feel,in my opinion,as the album is layed out perfectly and is like going on a journey through d 'n' b.

Track 2: Slam

This is a perfect track for after the intro.
It kicks in straight away and the beginning is Hip Hop in its style.
You expect to hear a rapper come on and start swearing at you,but knowing Pendulums genius and the fact that their a drum n bass set,you know to expect more.
You do get more....as the Hip Hop ends, the drum n bass kicks in and an extremely memorable riff kicks in thats bound to pack a dance floor.
This track is one of the more well known tracks of Pendulum as I have often seen this on MTV etc.
10/10

Track 3:Plastic World

This for me is a less memorable track, however it still is a quality d 'n' b track.
It doesnt contain much vocals, mainly concentrating on the d 'n' b ,but the vocals are repeating and say something like 'the musics rollin'.
A good track, but not my favourite.
9/10

Track 4: Fasten your seatbelts

This has got to be one of my favourite tracks.
When I heard this,I instantly loved it as its such an up-beat,fantastic track.
'Ladies and Gentlemen..fasten your seatbelts'
You need to,to listen to this track,as it really blew me away!
It contains an extremely memorable riff, which really makes you want to go and rave!
Its such a fantasticly put together track that exerts a feel good vibe and will make anyone want to dance!
11/10!

Track 5: Through the loop

This is my least favourite track of the c.d.
Its still a good quality track, but lacks something that the other tracks have.
Its very dark and meaningful,it contains a man talking at the beginning, almost preaching and he says: 'Theres no way of knowing, which direction we are going. Is it raining?,is it snowing? is a hurricane a blowing?..not a speck of light is showing,so the danger must be growing'
A good track, but in my opinion, not the best
8/10

Track 6: Sounds of life

The d 'n' b kicks in straight away on this track.
Its fuelled and fast and features the vocals of Jasmine Yee.
'Seems like your waiting for nothing, seems like time had a little bit more'
This is a really great tune, its really happy and reminds you about outside and nature, which is something we often forget about in our busy lives.
Its a great,quality track,thats happy,so gets a big...
10/10

Track 7: Girl in the Fire

A good quality track, but not one of my favourites.
I dont think this really contains any vocals, except a person singing 'oh yeah'.
Good strong bass though, just not a favourite of mine.
9/10

Track 8: Tarantula

This is the track that first got me onto Pendulum.
D.J HYPES version is better in my opinion, but this is still a cracker of a version.
'Tarantula,im with the massive, come sing y'all,Tarantula, dont play with my style I might sting y'all'
This track opens with a jamaican ragga style and is similar to dancehall style music.
The bass kicks in and it soon becomes clear what a fantastic d 'n' b track this is.
If you ever get time,I would recommend Google Videoing it as its worth a listen!
11/10!

Track 9: Out Here

This is not so much Drum n Bass, but more Breakbeat.
It contains a man singing 'Tearing down the wall'.
This is the only vocal, and its repeated at certain intervals.
Pendulum place this lyric perfectly,in just the right places, making it a fantastic track.
10/10

Track 10: Hold your Colour

This is the same title of the album and is probably the most meaningful track of the album.
'Hold your Colour against the wall, when they take everything away'
'She looked into your eyes and saw what lay beneath, dont try to save yourself, the circle is complete.'
This is a great song, and an example of why Pendulum are great at what they do.
10/10

Track 11: The terminal
A great drum n bass track, but not as memorable as some.
9/10

Track 12: Streamline

This is one of the most relaxed and chilled out tracks on the album.
'Let it go Streamline, let it come in time'
Its a song that you can relax to,even though its still a fast paced d 'n' b track.
Its one of the best on the album and the beginning contains a man talking over a radio transmitter or something of the like.
The end also contains almost the sound of an ice-cream van!
A fantastically put together track
10/10

Track 13: Blood Sugar

I'd heard this song before I bought the album and was a little dissapointed as the version I'd heard before was different to the album version.
The version I'd heard had a man saying something like 'You think you have come hear to witness the sound of Drum N Bass, instead your here to witness the end of the world......Ok fuck it,I lied, its Drum N Bass..whatcha gonna do?!
Then an extremely memorable riff kicked in,making it a great track.
However the album version is different,it contains no man talking, just the fantastic riff.
Its still a quality track, just would have been better with the man talking.
10/10

Track 14: Axle Grinder

The is the end of the album and the end of the journey.
If the album was a workout, then this track would be the cool down,if you know what I mean.
Its a basic d 'n' b track, with the same man at the beginning, telling us that were not ending this world, but instead moving onto a continuation, into the next.

This album is one I'd definately recommend.
It wont be to everyones taste, but I think if your open to trying new types of music, then I'd definately give it a listen.

Genre defying brilliance!
Review of Hold Your Colour - Pendulum by LadyFantomex

Advantages: Easy to enjoy, upbeat.
Disadvantages: None!

Pendulum are unique in that they are a drum and bass group loved by both people in the scene, and people who would normally despise their kind of music. At their live shows, you get a mixture of seasoned drum and bass fans, emo kids, indie kids, and anything else you care to imagine. It's not hard to see why. Every track on this album is uplifting, energetic and utterly enjoyable. Perfect for getting ready to go out, or any party, I challenge anyone ...
...This album is a good one to have in any CD collection, on hearing the songs, they will take an instant place in your heart, so everytime you hear them, you think "ooh, this reminds me of the first place I ever heard this song!" For me, it reminds me of Christms! ... Read review

Swing the Pendulum
Review of Hold Your Colour - Pendulum by sumara

Advantages: Slow or fast this is a changing as your mood
Disadvantages: Some songs get a bit samey and intros last forever!

I've been to see Pendulum live twice now, my third is December and even from watching videos of their gigs there is one thing about this band and this album that I adore....... its fans are the definition of eclectic. This album is for everyone, if you like metal, dance, rave, hip hop its all in there. You think its just another Drum and Bass album, then guitar guy and drummer man kick in and hit you in the face with a big musical stick. This album ... Read review

A very good album, that can be listened to over, and over again! Such songs as Taruantula, The Terminal and Hold your colour just make this a must have album for any Drum and Base fan. The fresh approach to the music makes it an interesting listen that will captivate people to listen over it many times more.

Hold your Colour: Pendulum
Review of Hold Your Colour - Pendulum by m4tt_king

Advantages: Awesome Sounds!
Disadvantages: Some songs lack the magic

...Tracks such as Hold your colour blew my mind. Tarantula...a great collaboration with $pyda! These guys produce some amazing sounds, mixtures of distortion, heavy bass beats and some incredible drum work really come together to make some sounds you'll almost certainly not be able to help yourself raving to. This stuff just gets you moving! whether you can help it or not! If you like groups such as Prodigy or Sub-focus...you'll love these guys. ... Read review

The Best CD I Own. Hold Your Colour - Pendulum
Review of Hold Your Colour - Pendulum by Meltus

Advantages: Every song is as good as the one it followed
Disadvantages: i havn't seen them live yet!!!! :( seriously, none whatsoever.

Hold Your Colour is the debut album by Australian DnB group Pendulum. Realeased 25th July 2005, it gave Pendulum worldwide fame and they were loved by hardcore DnB fans and people new to the scene alike. When i first bought this album i was a little skeptical of how good it would be. After first hearing "Another Planet", which still remains possibly the greatest song i have EVER heard, i was intruiged as to how they would be able to make a whole ...

You're Too Young To Be A Soundboy
Review of Hold Your Colour - Pendulum by  XICripZ

Advantages: Some big tunes
Disadvantages: Inconsistent

...?Hold Your Colour? was released in 2005 as the debut album from the Australian Drum & Bass act Pendulum. This album found them bringing a commercially-friendly Drum & bass sound that gave them the chance to breakthrough (unlike most acts in this genre), however they would go on to over-do it with their second album ?In Silico? to their point where they lost their Drum & bass foundations. 1. ?Intro? 2. ?Slam? They get the album going with one of their biggest tracks and one that gave them the chance to break away into the mainstream with material that has them moving the general Electronica sound towards something that fits in with the styles that were prominent in the contemporary Drum & Bass scene and they achieved it effectively (although the synth at the breakdown wasn?t really that impressive). **Four Stars** 3. ?Plasticworld... Great to listen too as well as party too!
Review of Hold Your Colour - Pendulum by  LordGryn

Advantages: Drum and Bass Album of the Year 2005 I'd say!
Disadvantages: 14 Tracks

...I read about this album on the internet the day before I was leaving the UK and I got it while in a rush to catch my flight at a virgin store at Gatwick airport, I was so excited about getting on the plane and listening to it as I had heard a few of the songs before! There are so many hits on this album: some which you see on TV and others which you hear at clubs and on the radio, these include: -Slam (entertaining music video!) -Girl in the Fire (my fav track) -Tarantula (Heavily played in clubs!) -Hold your Colour -Another Planet (which I think got track of the year) Pendulum really showed their skills in this album as the songs are so technical and detailed not like typical drum and bass. I found that my friends who are not into drum and bass really enjoyed most of the songs on this CD. But if you are a drum and bass... Read review

The Pendulum swings wildly
Review of Hold Your Colour - Pendulum by  andthentherewere

Advantages: Drum n Bass begins its come back
Disadvantages: Not as stand out as people make out

...it. HOLD YOUR COLOUR (5:28) At least they spelt colour correctly. Fair enough that wouldn't annoy me in a club as I'd never know but I own the CD so its a big thing. I've come to expect a lot from title tracks over the years. Not too many Drum n Bass albums have them so if you're going to then its a big thing. Luckily this is actually quite a good, if generic, DnB tune. Its a gift for those of us that can't dance as everything seems in time with it. For example at this moment I'm watching some nature program on mute and the two lobsters fighting seem to be fighting in time with this. A dancefloor filler. Its a really tight tune with some lovely vocals. This one would do well in the charts as a tune in its own right. No love of DnB needed. THE TERMINAL (5:42) I think we've worked out by now I like dark drum n bass. I like it... Read review
