Firstly, I will start by saying that on this album, Pendulum have managed to keep their underground roots and cross over to the main stream scene at the same time.
When I bought this album, there was a small sticker on the cover which said "Tipped to be the next Prodigy", and I could not agree more.
Pendulum have been on the scene since the mid 90s, however this is only their first full length album. It was released on the "Breakbeat Kaos" label in 2005. The label is run by DJ Fresh and Adam Fenton (known as Adam F).
Pendulum consists of three people, Paul Harding, Rob Swire, and Gareth McGrillen. They were originally located but moved to the UK in 2003.
Pendulum combine heavy beats along with low basslines, underneath trance-like leads. The album has been critically acclaimed since its release last year.
Special guest such as Freestylers, MC Spyda and Tenor Fly also feature on the album. The tracklist is as follows:
1. Prelude 2. Slam 3. Plasticworld (feat. fats and TC) 4. Fasten Your Seatbelt (feat. The Freestylers) 5. Through The Loop 6. Sounds Of Life (feat. Jasmine Yee) 7. Girl In The Fire 8. Tarantula (feat. Fresh, $pyda and Tenor Fly) 9. Out Here 10. Hold Your Colour 11. The Terminal 12. Streamline 13. Another Planet 14. Still Grey
Tracks like "Slam" have proved popular on the UK club scene, and I feel it really demonstrates what Pendulum are all about. Along with Prelude, it is a excellent start to the album and sets the tone for the rest.
There are also tracks like "Plasticworld" and "Hold Your Colour", which maintain a fast paced beat, but are much calmer to listen to, almost organised in the album to give the listener a rest!
The last track "Still Grey" I feel shows the listener what the album is all about - fast paced at times, but ambient and calmer at other points.
All in all, this is an excellent album. I would recommend this to any drum 'n' bass fan, or any dance music fan looking for an energetic album to get the blood pumping.
