Hold Your Horses - First Choice

Advantages: Loving crafted, genre transcending gem of an album
Disadvantages: Don't be put off by it being "country".

...to dance and sing along. It's so lovingly made, so contagious, and so damned catchy, that I defy anyone not to like it. (See picture). If you're not a country fan, I still recommend this album. Get drunk and turn it up really LOUD. If you don't believe me, Hold Yer Horses was selected as one of his top five albums of 2006 by Phil Jupitus. And he should know. Advantages: Passionate, Skillful, Anthemic Fist In The Air Music
Disadvantages: May make your ears bleed!

...Sometimes a band comes along that knocks you to the floor. The sheer power of their music is enough to make your ears bleed and your knees turn to jelly. A Wilhelm Scream are just such a band. They play hard melodic punk along the lines of Rise Against, Belvedere, Strike Anywhere etc etc, The thing that sets them apart from the many bands playing this kind of music is the almost flawless skills of the musicians. The drumming, bass lines and guitars are played at breakneck speed and with a fair amount of agression but at the same time it is still possible to single each instrument out and listen to the different parts of the tunes. On top of this the half shouted half sung lyrics again remain listenable and hold a melody without losing any of the power or agression. Advantages: The best album from his most successful decade
Disadvantages: Everything else stops when this album goes on

...extensively in the preceding months (on the “Live Rust” tour, the album of which was released five months after this one. Four of these tracks also make it to the successor album). The polish afforded by Young’s punishing schedule is captured on this blistering album. This album is also noteworthy for reuniting Young with his sometime backing band, Crazy Horse, for the first time since 1975’s acclaimed “Zuma”. It is notable with this record that Young’s technique of juxtaposing simple acoustic strummers with festivals of feedback and distorted electric guitars has been revised slightly. The beautific and stripped down numbers are present in what can be described as the first half of the album (side one, we oldies still tend to consider it); while the second half of the album presents Young and Crazy Horse...
