With the subtitle "Music from the Great American War Films", this collection gloriously exacerbates the exaggeration only a movie can get away with--and it does it with loud patriotic pride for the longest section in the chronology presented as history passes through the First and Second World War. Here you'll find Jerry Goldsmith hits: The Blue Max; In Harm's Way; Macarthur; and Patton. Also John Williams greats: Midway, Saving Private Ryan, Schindler's List, and Empire of the Sun. Other composers' bugle calls include: Max Steiner (Sergeant York; and The Caine Mutiny); Elmer Bernstein (The Great Escape; and The Bridge At Remagen); and Jerome Moross (The Sharkfighters; and The Mountain Road). The American Civil War is touched upon earlier with: (Gettysburg; Friendly Persuasion; and Glory); and afterwards fast retreats are sounded for The Korean War (MASH), The Vietnam War (Platoon, Born On the Fourth of July, and Casualties of War), and The Cold War (Dr. Strangelove, Rambo, and The Hunt For Red October). The composers' styles may differ (all nicely interpreted by the City of Prague), but the mission remains the same; this is music to honour those who fought for our future--fictional or otherwise. --Paul Tonks

Advantages: Great cover, some good music Disadvantages: Much of the music does not stand up to this listening
...The Carry On Album is a CD of musicfrom the wonderful Carry On films, which spanned three decades. It is played by the City of PraguePhilharmonicOrchestra & is really only for huge officianados of the films. Some of the music is instantly recognisable & evokes all kinds of great memories about the films, but other tracks do not stand up so well as pieces of music, away from the films they were written for. The musicfrom the Carry On films - Camping, Sergeant, Teacher, Nurse, Cabby, Cleo, Jack, Behind, At Your Convenience, Up The Khyber, Doctor & Doctor Again - does not stand up well as an album, but the art work on the cover is great....

Emotionally Compelling Review ofSchindler's List (The Classic FilmMusic Of John Williams) - City Of PraguePhilharmonicOrchestraby
Holliss
Advantages: has a variety of different moods Disadvantages: not suitable for all people
...These pieces are from the Oscar winning film 'Shindlers List'. The theme, which John Williams wrote himself, is nothing short of a masterpiece. It is an emotionally compelling which was performed by the renound Itzhak Perlman. John Williams has come up with a true winning piece here. This piece is suitably for a variety of listeners, and anyone who has watched the film will know that the soundtrack is a must have. This piece is uniquely original and mirrors none of William's ealrier work. Without this soundtrack your music collection will never be quite complete. Go buy it!...

Advantages: amazing vocals, aggressive, sounds new and fresh Disadvantages: a few weaker tracks
...subejcts such as 9/11, Gettysbury, Us Navvy etc. The 3 last track is a trilogy about the events in Gettysbury (The civil war) accomplished together with PraguePhilharmonicOrchestra. These last three epic tracks are the most intresting due to the great work of the orcehestra and such instruments such as violins and bagpipe doing the leads. These songs also include some snippets from some very old classical compositions from famous anthems, which I do not know by name.
Tim Owens does his best vocal efforts he ever done on this album. Everything from his softer vocals on the ballad "Hollow Man" to his aggressive wails on "Greenface" sounds great and natural. The newer musical direcetion of the band could indeed be described as Iced Earth meets Judas Priest, eventhough Jon Schaffer is still composing all material as he always done for his band...
