evoking any specific emotion, and since their strengths are searing guitar solos and cathartic, Gram Parsons-influenced harmonies, it makes sense their best album would come when they teamed with a producer (George Drakoulias) who could make all that sorrowful noise come to life.Hollywood Town Hallis such a sonic marvel, in fact, that even the new version of the beautiful, if vague, "Two Angels" (repeated from their earlier albumBlue Earth) sounds less a retread than a revelation. Though still obscure, like everything here it sounds breathtaking.--David Cantwell

The current TownHall Building in the centre of Sheffield is one of only two Grade 1 listed Buildings in Sheffield. Built in 1890 this is the fourth TownHall Building that the City has had.
The first TownHall Building was built in 1637. The second TownHall Building was used between 1700 and 1808, whilst the third Building was used between 1808 and 1897.
The current TownHall Building is located on Pinstone Street right in the centre of the City. This impressive looking piece of Architecture took seven years to build so it did not officially open until the 21st May 1897 when it was opened by Queen Victoria.
It was designed by a London based Architect called E.W Mountford, with an extension designed by F.E.P Edwards completed in 1923.
The design was based largely on that of St. Paul's Church that occupied the land adjacent ...
Advantages: superb songs, lyrics and vocals Disadvantages: takes a few listens
Here it was. The long anticipated second album after the world wide smash of their debut album, Hot Fuss. Released in the UK in October 2006 on the Lizard King label the critics were sharpening their knives in anticipation due to Brandon Flowers, the lead singer, describing the album as "one of the best albums in the past twenty years" and that it would be "the album that keeps rock & roll afloat." The amazing success of Hot Fuss, hype surrounding the second album release and claims of grandeur by Flowers made for a heady mix of both excitement and trepidation when Sam's Town was released.
The album takes its name from the Sam's Town Hotel and Gambling Hall, a hotel-casino in Las Vegas, the hometown of the band.
Sam's Town is nothing like I was expecting. Whereas Hot Fuss was influenced by 80's New Wave with the end result being ...
Advantages: delivers some awesome songs and an overall great sound Disadvantages: a few bad songs thrown in
the best in town is the second full album released by the welsh post hardcore band , the blackout. Having listened to the previous album i had high hopes for the album although this is the first album on their new record label Epitah so my concern was that they would keep the right formula. The unique 6 member band fshowcase welsh talent for post hardcore rock music, their real unique feature is that of two singers for screaming and melodies which adds up to a very polished and individual sound.
This album , the best in town proves to me that the success of the first full album was no fluke delivering a powerfull sound with heavy guitar riffs and scorching screamo amongst the melodic singing. The addition of a guest singer who is the lead singer of youmeatsix was also a pleasent surpirse when listening to the album.

The Jayhawks: Mark Olson (vocals, acoustic guitar, harmonica); Gary Louris (vocals, electric guitar); Marc Perlman (bass); Ken Callahan (drums). Additional personnel: Benmont Tench, Nicky Hopkins (keyboards). Engineers include: Brian Jenkins, Brendan O'Brien, Jim Rondinelli.
Recorded at Hollywood Sound, Hollywood, California and Pachyderm Studios, Canon Falls, Minnesota. Includes liner notes by Joe Henry. Call it what you will, "Americana," "roots-rock" or "alt-country," in the case of the Jayhawks' major-label debut, it's simply great music. On these 10 tracks, Minnesotan singer/songwriters Gary Louris and Mark Olson mesh elements of rock, folk, and country into songs that sound both traditional and original at once. While their vocal harmonies follow the lineage of the Byrds and the Burrito Brothers, Olson and Louris are yin and yang on guitars, with Olson's steady acoustic strumming anchoring Louris' dynamic, fuzzed-out electric playing. Bassist Marc Perlman and drummer Ken Callahan provide a solid rhythm foundation, with star session players Benmont Tench (Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, Elvis Costello) and Nicky Hopkins (the Beatles, the Rolling Stones) lending additional embellishment on piano, organ, and keyboards. "Waiting For the Sun" and "Settled Down Like Rain" are instant classics, songs of ragged beauty that sound familiar after one listen. Others like "Crowded in the Wings" and "Two Angels" (much improved over the BLUE EARTH version) are folky narratives that highlight Louris and Olson's penchant for romantic rural storytelling. With its catchy melodies and rustic charm, HOLLYWOOD TOWN HALL is truly a landmark album in American music.
