WHAT ATTRACTED ME?:
Once again I was the cover of this book, a beautiful peacock in the foreground and Indian border down the bottom. The colours are green and muted yellows and gold for the border. It looked reminiscent of a romantic image of colonial India.
THE AUTHOR:
The author Julia Gregson was a former Hardie Amies model and she moved to Austrlia where she took up journalism. This took her to New York, Los Angeles, India and Vietnam as a foreign correspondent for magazines. She was inspired to write this novel by her husband telling her about the Indian ?Fishing Fleet? of young women who came out on the liners to look for suitable husbands as there were so many available men compared to women in India in the 1920s.

Advantages: A bit of austrailian escapism as you finish eating your dinner every evening. Disadvantages: None at all.

We had to wait an entire year for it to return to our screens because Channel 5 won the rights to it over ITV! Was it worth the wait? Well I think so, yes.
Just in case anyone doesn't know what Home and Away is I will explain, its an Australian soap set in the beautiful town of Summer bay which has the most gorgeous beach you have ever seen. It is quite a small town and of course being a soap everyone knows everyone else's business.
The show started on ITV back in the late 1980's and the first scenes were of Pippa and Tom Fletcher turning up at the Caravan Park with their whole tribe of foster children, who included Carly, Frank, Steven, Lynne and Sally.
Since the beginning Pippa has had 3 husbands and now doesn't live in Summer bay anymore and the only foster child who does is Sally ...

**Stands up and clears throat**
?AHEM?Hi everyone?my name is Claire and I?m a Home And Away addict?!?
There, I?ve admitted it. But am I shame faced and embarrassed??? Am I heck! I would shout it from the rooftops if I were light enough to shimmy up the drainpipe. I don?t actually watch much TV ? normally because I?m glued to my PC monitor ? but I refuse to miss a single episode of this addictive Aussie soap. It is 100% pure escapism. My dream is travel around Australia but seen as that isn?t going to happen any time soon Home And Away is the next best thing!
So what is it about this Channel 5 show that has taken over half an hour of my life five days of the week? Well read on for detail (Scatz500 style) on the best soap on the box!
