Slowing right down for the title track, Labar gets to showcase some gorgeous slow and sleazy blues guitar in the classic blues style as Kiefer gives an impassioned vocal. Live this must have sounded pretty incredible. The ever-so-slightly throwaway If You Don't Like It sees the band telling their women it's our way or the highway (if you don't like it I don't care), and while a little cliched in the lyrics I really like the rythym track on it - Brittingham and drummer Fred Coury get to put down a real groove - and the sing-song chorus with a big lead guitar middle eight - alright lads, I'll give you that. It's time for another ballad now and it's Coming Home, one of those mans-gotta-do-what-a-mans-gotta-do ballads. Are you tough enough for my love? Cos I'm coming home……aaah one... Read review

Advantages: An excellent adventurous progression fo their sound
Disadvantages: Not an easy album to get into

...Gods And Monsters has been a while coming, sitting on Echo's shelves for months having been recorded and mastered at the tail-end of last year, this finally got a release at the start of April. Acoompanied by a nationwide (and European tour) this album marks a bit of a departure for Kloot in some ways, whilst not losign the essential Klootish nature of their first two albums. There's the usual mixture of rockier and more acoustic tracks, from the beatiful Astray (Think No Fear Of Falling or Cinders) right up to the rock-out ending of Sand And Glue (Harking back to Stop from Natural History). The production on this album has been a slightly contentious issue, with some hating it, while many more think it's a bold step forwards. Advantages: moody morbid motifs...
Disadvantages: ...below a gruesome patina of black metal

......whether it be heavy post punk speed riff barrage & croaked vocals (as in 'the cotton optic'), ghost ship shanties & sickened mantric melancholic murmurs wrapped in a stifling distorted guitar sound carpet (as in 'brass dogs'), hectic industrialized black metal monotony melted into dissolving acerbic throat-singing & fading pathetic chants for salvational oblivion (as in 'an enigma in brine'), bass-hollowed and blood-soaked bars of heavy blues-butchered doom metal and gothic incantations against a backdrop of rainy insanity (as in 'a cloud formed teardrop asylum'), the bitter sound of fast-paced stampeding war machines haunted by burning ghosts of madness and finally shredded into pieces during a frantic dervish dance of death (as in 'aeon in cinders'), morbidly picturesque and almost symphonic melodies of withered yet sublime song...
