When my father was as young as I'm now, he was a great fan of the Beatles. Unfortunaly he grew up in the eastern part of Germany and could not get any tapes or LPs from his stars. How happy he would have been, just holding a copy of the White Album in his hands.
Well, I was very happy, but I have my own White Album. Its from Daft Punk, not from the Beatles, but it's the same rock-spirit inside.
Homework is definitly the album that maked the club-insider-tip Daft Punk to a well known and lateron famous music. No wonder why. Homework is full of fresh, new, inovative Funk. It brough a little revolution in the German club-scene. I remember nigths over nights in the spring of 1997, dancing to this music. And you can feel that this is not just music made by some guys using a computer and some samples and trying to make a Ibizi-Hit. No, this is music at its best, made with heart and soul. You really feel the power and the enthuasm they invested in their work.
It's hard to write about my favorites in this album, because every song is special and perfect in its own way. I remember a party in the Musicfactory Pirna (nearby Dresden, Saxony, Germany). A DJ had two copies of the album and mixed "Rollin' & Scratchin'" with "Rollin' & Scratchin'". WOW, it was like ... oh, there are no words for this. This straigth forward baseline and this crazy loops. Wow.
Teachers is also cool, because it's a tribute to some of the really makers of the international technoscene. Jeff Mills, Luke Slater, DJ Hell, Tomka, Pierre, all who should be on the Olymp of techno are named here.
Daftendirekt is perfect for psychodelic dancing with a upgoing and increasing beat.
Da Funk is undescibable. It's a total mutant 303-baseline and you will keep the melody in your head for a long time.
The both french guys being Daft Punk are Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo establisht there own trademark with "Around The World".
Ok, so here are all the songs on the album:
1.Daftendirekt 2.Wdpk 83.7 Fm 3.Revolution 909 4.Da Funk 5.Phoenix 6.Fresh 7.Around The World 8.Rollin' & Scratchin' 9.Teachers 10.High Fidelity 11.Rock'n Roll 12.Burnin' 13.Indo Silver Club 14.Alive 15.Funk Ad 16.Oh Yeah
It was first released on 15. january 1997 on Virgin (EMI) Music.
All following releases of Daft Punk where not so inovative and fresh funky like this one, also if they all where good songs. If you re new in this kind of music just listen to Homework to get a view into the latest history of funky-electronic-music. If you re deeper in techno, this is a MUST-HAVE!

Advantages: Great tunes, humour (though not novelty) and a wonderful 80's vibe Disadvantages: Final track 'Too Long' is as it says on the tin. Compared to first album, maybe they've sold-out a little bit.
