Stop me if you've heard this one before, but I'm an opinionated student who needs money. I've been a bit annoyed about two things recently:
1) People taking my opinions way too seriously and leaving long-winded irate comments in response.
2) People...

This debut album from French house artists Daft Punk is essential listening for fans of dance and electronic music.
The style is instantly recognisable as French: funky bass wobbles and wild synthetic screeches, creating a vaguely disco sound. The distinctive Daft Punk flavour is the marriage of these sounds to a deep house beat and powerful, solid bassline. This style is consistent throughout 'Homework' and is almost always highly successful.
The toughest challenge to a dance music act is to create a sound which can both be consistently defined as belonging to that group while still allowing them enough variation within that sound to produce music that is fresh, innovative and not repetitive. Daft Punk accomplish this with considerable success. The singles, 'Da Funk,' 'Around The World' and 'Revolution 909' reflect this most strongly.
In some areas, however, 'Homework' wanders too far intro hard house territory, and the resultant sound is quite unpleasant. 'Rollin' & Scratchin'' is a prime offender, with ear-splitting thumps and jerky scracthes unbecoming to the otherwise slick production of this fine album.
Largely, though, for fans of Daft Punk's singles and remixes (notably their excellent version of 'Life Is Sweet' by The Chemical Brothers), this is an album that must be owned.

Advantages: Great tunes, humour (though not novelty) and a wonderful 80's vibe Disadvantages: Final track 'Too Long' is as it says on the tin. Compared to first album, maybe they've sold-out a little bit.
