Advantages: Great variety of songs, enough tracks to keep anybody occupied for some time. Disadvantages: Slightly genre-specific, I suppose.
What is there to say about SteeleyeSpan to the unacquainted? The immediate comparison that leaps to mind is to the contemporary British folk-group, Fairport Convention, but it is unlikely that many of Fairport's fans will have managed to miss out on Steeleye altogether, and they, too, have faded rather into obscurity, rendering the comparison quite useless. Therefore, to start from the beginning:
SteeleyeSpan are one of those groups who don't seem to be able to keep a static line-up for more than two albums at a time. That said, the thing about Steeleye is that it doesn't matter what incarnation of the band you are listening to, they are *always good*. My RealOne Player informs me that they fit into the category of 'folk-rock', but with the exception of a few songs - such as the techno-enhanced Thomas The Rhymer - I would say ...
Advantages: Great Location, Huge Executive Rooms Disadvantages: Quite expensive
I stayed at the Grange Holborne for 2 nights in April 2005. The trip was a special birthday treat for my mother and it was important to me that the hotel was particularly special. When I was looking for a hotel for our stay I saw that this came highly recommended by a number of websites and so booked an executive twin at a cost of £135.00 per night.
On checking in we quickly noticed that, although the reception area was quite small, the staff all seemed to be incredibly efficient and helpful. We arrived quite early and although our room wasn't ready they quickly arranged for us to leave our luggage so that we could get on with enjoying our trip to the big city.
Although the room we had reserved was an executive twin, I think we may have been upgraded to a mini-suite (I had emailed the hotel to tell them about Mum's birthday when I ...
Advantages: friendly owners, good location Disadvantages: none
My husband is originally from Wallingford in Oxfordshire. Most of his family live in North Devon as do we, but we travel up occasionally to see some of his old friends.
Last year we were looking for a cheap B&B in the Wallingford area and this was the closest that we could find.
Long Wittenham is a lovely village which is about a 15 minute drive from Oxford. The village itself has three pubs which all serve good food and entertainment.
The Grange is a small Bed & Breakfast in Long Wittenham. We have stayed there two years running over the Easter weekend so I thought I would write a review on them.
Graham Neil runs The Grange. It only has around four bedrooms, only one of which is ensuite. Mr Neil lives there with his wife and his two dogs, Florrie and Harriet.

Album Notes
Steeleye Span includes: Bob Johnson (vocals, acoustic & electric guitars); Peter Knight (vocals, violin, viola, piano); Tim Harries (vocals, piano, keyboards, bass); Gay Woods (vocals, bodhran); Dave Mattacks (drums). Recorded at Warehouse Studios, Oxford, England. Twenty-eight years and 18 albums after Steeleye Span's debut, 1998's HORKSTOW GRANGE has the feeling of both a fresh start and a return to form. This is the first Steeleye Span album not to feature Maddy Prior's angelic, bell-like vocals. However, her full-time replacement, Gay Woods, was no novice; she had been a member of the band for their first album, 1970's HARK! THE VILLAGE WAIT. The album's title track also echoes the group's beginnings, for "Horkstow Grange" is the obscure English ballad which features the character named Steeleye Span. This song, like the 11 other mostly traditional folk tunes here, is performed with the casual grace of old friends having a singalong. Woods' lovely voice and Peter Knight's superlative fiddling are at the center of these performances, but never overshadow the other members' contributions. HORKSTOW GRANGE is an intimate, warm, and inviting record.
