This isn't, however, an ordinary ginger cake, as the packet tells us. Yes, it has a rich deep brown-coloured layer on the top, which is sticky and almost wet to the touch, but inside the main body of the cake, there are sizeable chunks of stem ginger, interspersed with whole sultanas, and this is reflected pretty accurately in the photograph on the outside of the packet, although it's obviously not shown to scale.

What can you buy for 10p nowadays? When I was a kid we would go to the local newsagents and buy a 10p bag of sweets which would be full to the brim with sticky, sickly delights.
Nowadays a similar bag of sweets will set you back around 50p which is a quite a chunk out of your pocket money if you're only a kid, but there is one thing that I have discovered in my local Spar, which will keep any kid quiet and it will only cost them 10 pence.

We were browsing for pudding for a family meal in the refrigerated deserts section of Sainbury's, and came across this cake. It serves 8 (quite generously as I ate one 6th and would normally eat a 1/4 of a typical 'serves 8' cake!), and at 343 calories, 32.2g sugar and 15.6g fat per slice, it isn't the healthiest choice.
However, it was completely worth it as it was the best cake I have tasted in months.The cake itself is rich and moist, but not sickly and it is covered in silky 'chocolate frosting' and fudge piece. The cake comes chilled and to heat it needs heating in a microwave for between 3 and 4 minutes depending on power category.
