Steeped in the back-catalogue of the Smiths and Pulp, with broad 80s synth sweeps cloaking each tale of fraught metrosexual romance, this band clearly rate the swoon over the swagger. Still, this is almost entirely an upbeat record, one made for the packed club than the smoky VIP room; in particular "On Top", "Somebody Told Me" and "Mr Brightside" are tremendous examples of breathless indie-pop that gallop along like a lovestuck heartbeat with frontman Brandon Flowers gasping for breath on the claustrophobic disco floor. This is, inarguably, what the Killers do best. Even when they deviate from form theyve got a few neat ideas--see the gospel choir that echoes back Flowers' repeated exclamation "I've got soul/ But I'm not a soldier" on "All These Things I've Done", or the self-consciously epic "Indie Rock'n'Roll", delivered by the Killers with all the fireworks and gusto of a curtain-closing Broadway showtune.--Louis Pattison

Starting with a reassured manner, this tune is incredibly catchy mixing pop and 80's synth music in a way that would later become synonomous with the Killers, this is a great song, Brandon Flowers lyrics and vocals are superb, full of urgency and passion, the chorus is superb, overall a storming start to the album.
Mr Brightside
One of the most popular songs of the last 10 years, this is a classic tune, great fast vocal that starts muffled and then becomes clear, the lyrics are the key to this tune, they are fantastic, is it about voyeurism, is it somebody else seducing his girlfriend? Jealousy is the key to the song, but there is also a whiff of redemption. The drums set a great pace with this tune, the synth organs control the song and the guitars are actually not particularly noticeable. This is a wicked song, incredibly catchy with a singalong chorus. Great song.
Smile Like you mean it
Nice tuneful start to this song, the chorus is the best bit, again very catchy, you can hear the influence of Gary Numan in the music and the Pet Shop Boys lyrically, this is a good show of the band as a whole, strong guitars and drumming, good organs on the chorus and good harmonies, matched with a catchy tune and some very strong lyrics again.
Somebody Told Me
This is another classic tune which is even better live, with swirling electronica, it builds into quite a song, pacy vocals, lifting guitars, a thumping drum, lyrically its not the best song on the album, but it still has atmosphere and a story, what it has is a catchy tune and an incredibly good chorus, backing vocals are strong, and Brandon sounds superb on this fantastic tune.
Andy, You're a Star
A change of pace for the album, slowed down guitars and electronica, Brandon almost recites this in a controlled fashion through a vocoder, the steady studied vocal and music make this a very catchy and easy to remember song, the lyrics are excellent, it has a real feel of emotion about it. The song is pared down and much the better for it, it shows another side to the band and it works brilliantly.
On Top
This starts off sounding a bit like Faithless but then the guitars kick in and it sounds much more like a traditional rock band, Brandon sounds very confident on this song, smooth, and he flows perfectly with the song, it builds up to a storming chorus, this is a great song, nicely paced, it sounds a bit like Simple Minds at certain moments but a much more modern, relevant version.
Glamorous Indie Rock and Roll
This song is fantastic live, it's a real anthem and gets the crowd going, Brandon sounds amazing from the start, the pace is slow but builds to an intense climax, lyrics are superb about a beautiful girl in an indie rock and roll band, it really does build up and the more time you give it the more you are rewarded with the fun rocky chorus. Nice changes of pace and instrument in the tune, it's a very good song.
Believe me Natalie
Slow start, with earie lurking electronica behind the heavy drums and bass, this has a really good start, allowing the band a bit of time to show off their playing before any vocal kicks in, this is not one of the stronger songs on the album, but as ever Brandon Flowers gives it an intense feeling he is a charismatic singer who draws you in, the song is well layered and has a good feel but is not as catchy as many of the others.
Midnight Show
Starts at quite a pace, guitars and drums all blazing, this is a decent indie tune, much more traditional not real electronica to talk of, Brandon singing a story over a realy good tune, it sounds musically like the Strokes but with the unforgettable Flowers voice, it's a sleazy tune full of hope and despair.
Everything will be Alright
Slow pace to this closing track on the album, strange dislocated vocals sung through a vocoder, this is a great song, the music is strange and different, the vocals are hauntingly beautiful, as are the lyrics, it sounds a bit like Blur mixed with Gary Newman and the Pet Shop Boys, it's a farewell and it's a stunning end to this short punchy album from a band with huge ambitions and the talent to match it.
My Verdict
For a debut album this is superb, with only one song I could really describe as average, it's a well produced album full of style and flourishes, the band play confidently with assurance, and the use of electronica gives them something many indie bands simply don't have. For me the key is and always will be Brandon Flowers, the guy is incredibly charismatic, on stage he controls the audience, you can't take your eyes off him, on this album he controls the tone, pace and everything about it, lyrically there are some great tunes and he really has an eye for a catchy tune and chorus, this is intelligent grown up pop music with edge, its stylish, moody and lots of fun and the album is something you should really listen to, it is one of the best albums of the last 10 years within its field and fully deserved the praise heaped upon it.
How much does it cost?
Used prices are from £1.81, new from £4.89 on Amazon, its really good value and a really great album.

...the song Crystal. Hot Fuss is their debut album and was actually written, produced and packaged up but they could not get a record label interested until Lizard King records, a UK Indie label, made an offer and shortly after the album's release they featured in NME and had all the major labels queuing up to sign them. It was released in the UK in June 2004 and heralded The Killers explosion onto the music scene where they steadfastly remain. At 46 ... ...or leave it". Hot Fuss is an album you can listen to from start to finish, over & over again and not get bored with it. It continually keeps you guessing in terms of the meanings of the lyrics which are often multi layered and so you can make them mean anything that you want to. The songs are cleverly written from experience, with superb music and high quality vocals sung with emotion. Just as you think the quality cannot continue then up pops the ...

Advantages: It's one of those records you can play to death Disadvantages: A couple of weak links but it still leaves you thirsty for more!!
The Killers are a 4 piece band from Las Vegas that surpisingly only formed in late 2002 and its amazing how much they have achieved within a short space of time. With smash hits singles "Mr Brightside", "Somebody told me" and "All the things that I've done", live appreances on shows like the O.C, Live 8, World Music and MTV Video music awards, sell-out tours already in the bag what more can a band ask for.
With the new UK version released just over ... ...take a look back at the original version of their debut album "Hot Fuss" and find out why it was such a big success.
The band itself comprises of frontman Brandon Flowers (24), bass player Mark Stoermer (28), drum player Ronnie Vannucci Jr (29) and guitarist David Keuning (29).
The road to success wasn't easy for these talented musicians. Brandon was dumped by his previous group Blush Response for refusing to move with them. Then his luck began ...

Advantages: Some brilliant tracks Disadvantages: A few fillers
Dear readers,
I have no remorse in recycling, I heard it's good for the enviroment, and whats good for the enviroment is good for me. In this case it saves my poor brain the time and effort to re-word what I wrote yesterday to use as a band bio peice for The Killers (in my review to the follow up of this album, "Sams Town" 3 stars out of 5). So this short introduction letter will explain why some of it seems familiar.

The band formed when Brandon Flowers saw an advert in the paper by Dave Keuning, these two would then be joined by Keunings roomate and a drummer (who would later sue the band for copyright infringement) who both left before the band made it big.
In their place Mark Stoermer, Ronnie Vannucci Jr. were hired (after quite a bit of ooh'ing and ...

Advantages: Generally low price, reached number one in album charts in 2004, Disadvantages: Songs get more boring towards the end (but that's only in my opinion)
==The Killers, Hot Fuss==
'''A little bit about the album'''
The album was released in June 2004. It reached number one in the album charts in the UK, and in Australia. It is the first album The Killers released.
The album cover front is light blue and on the middle of the front it says 'the killers' in big white letters. 'the' is in small letters on top of the 'k'. Underneath this it says in smaller, spaced out, dark blue capitals it says 'H ... ...and Sawdust. In my opinion Hot Fuss is definitely the best by miles.
The kind of music I like is a bit of everything really. I would say people who like indie rock, alternative rock all those types of music, would probably enjoy this album the most. It is a number one album so that tells us that a lot of people must enjoy it to have bought it for it to get to number one.
'''Would I recommend the album?'''
If you think I'm going to say no, then ...

Advantages: Brilliant Synth/Rock Beat to it! Most tracks are good!! Disadvantages: Tails off towards the end!
The Killers burst onto the scene from Las Vegas in 2004 with there debut album 'Hot Stuff'. They were actually formed though in 2002 when lead singer Brandon Flowers was by his own band 'Blush Response' and saw an advert in a magazine from future guitarist Davind Keuning about forming a rcok band inspired by the likes of Oasis, The Cure, The Smiths and New Order.
The album is brilliant in my opinion, you can really hear the New Order in there songs ... ...particular is very similar to the smiths with Flowers' having a similar voice to rock legend Morissey. The album opens with the suberb 'Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine'. This is the best song on the album in my opinion, it kicks in with some great drumming and bass guitar giving a really powerful feel. Mr Brightside is second on the playlist, this song was released and had something different about it, with an unusual sound from the guitar. It reached ...

When You Were Young was the only track I'd heard from this when I bought it, but having put HotFuss (TheKillers first album) on repeat and loved it, I thought I'd give it a go. I had high expectations for this album because of the quality of the band's previous work and a lot of hype. I have to say I was only slihtly disappointed. On first listen to the album I thought that the standard was not as high as I'd hoped, but after about the third time of listening to the album I fell in love with it.
My favourite tracks are When You Were Young, For Reasons Unknown ...
Advantages: Great tracks including mr brightside Disadvantages: i want more tracks!!!!
